To me a smart phone is not only a phone itself but:
1. network
2. app store
3. security
4. user friendliness

We use Apple product a lot at my business and home. iPhones are great but I know from few of my friends, Android phones (Samsung S3 included) are really good as well. As far direct comparison between iPhone 5 and Samsung S3 - there is a lot to consider and in my opinion you should really try both at the store and read more online. Keep in mind - Samsung is using a lot of Apple technology.
On paper (specs) Samsung may seem to have an edge but that's only part of the story. Just like our Bimmers - they don't win on paper with Ducs or Jap bikes but in a real life that's a different story. I feel similar about iPhones. The biggest advantage of Apple product over Android to me is security. Even FBI officially said that Android operating system is much less secure then iOS from Apple.

Good luck.

I recently changed from Blackberry to Iphone 5.
Because I'm a fairly mobile worker I find it gives me far better connectivity to all my work apps than theblackberry. I'm really impressed with it.
My wife got the Samsung Galaxy III and finds that every app she wants to download she has to sell her soul to Google - Not good!

Apple anything is more expensive when you buy it, however, I am one of the worlds biggest CHEAPO'S, and went into an Apple store last year and dared the cute little thing waiting on me to explain why Apple stuff is that much better. I now own an Iphpne4, a Macbok Pro, and got my wife an iPad for her birthday. I honestly believe it IS that much better, and I travel all the time and never had a problem.

I'm keeping my Blackberry, and will gladly wait for the new OS. BB is a open system for software developers, and I don't have to bother with Apple or Google deciding what apps are appropriate for my device.

2 Congressmen petitioned Apple and Google to forbid downloads of Trapster, a mobile speed trap application. Although Apple and Google declined, they didn't have to, they could have pulled the app from their download store, and the app off on their phones, and there is nothing users can do about it. The next request they may honor. I will keep my open device.

BB does not have this limitation, direct download and software installs outside BB Appworld is allowed. As with Windows Phone. I may consider Win8 too, as self management of apps is allowed.

Also, both Apple music products I bought for my son died within a year. He's got a Windows phone now. I can't justify the extra cost for Apple with such a weak reliability record.
