Manometer is very easy and cheap to make, the main point of discussion is what fluid to put in em!
(I use 3-1 oil in mine and it works fine. It's a little heavier than water, so damps nicely, BUT it does leave a miniscus on the sides of the tube so the accuracy can be impaired to a tiny degree if I take my time over things. Water would do the same, but to a lesser extent)

That 4 cylinder (differential) manometer is the first one I've seen. I never realized that the same differential vacuum principal will work with 4 or any number of cylinders. Looks like I can de-commisson the ancient, hazardous Mercury CarbStyx hanging in the garage.

Using ATF instead of water makes it very very slow to respond to adjustments . . . about 10 seconds. It was really annoying when I first used one. Using water makes it SO sensitive that it cannot be used on a bike with a large initial adjustment error without quickly inhaling the water. There is an interconnected 2 jar 1/2 filled with water system to deal with that too and I'll be posting my low cost version of it soon. Basically, the high vacuum TB empties the "other" 1/2 filled jar, giving you time to make the correct TB adjustment. If you don't make it in time before the jar empties it's still OK, it'll just suck in air bubbling thru the water in the full jar.

I think that was one of the reasons I chose very light oil, just in case!
