servo brakes success stories

Post by ornk »

hello

I have learned that the servo/abs machines sometimes have had a servo failure at mileages as low as 25k. I made a posting that asked if anyone had this problem and there were zero replies.
I would really appreciate to hear from anyone who has a BMW with the servo brakes that has had no failures and what kind of mileages that you have racked up. And if someone still wants to relate about a servo failure- I would appreciate knowing the mileage and if BMW made good on it if the machine happened to be out of warranty. BTW, I own a 2002 R1150 R ABS
Thank you!

My bike has 42k and as far as I know it's still running the original servo. There's lots of stuff that can break on any bike...

And you're dreaming if you think BMW will do anything for your 12 year old bike beyond charging you lots of $$$ for parts and service

Dear Vitamin C

Thanks for your prompt reply! It is a shame. When my K75 was out of warranty BMW fixed a fuel injection problem free of charge. Oh well!

Mine is also a 2002 R1150R with ABS. It has 20K miles and no problems with ABS yet, except for the following.

I dropped it once and had almost no brakes at all afterwards. A mechanic reset the ABS for me somehow, and brakes are fine again.
That worries me a lot. I could drop it again.

As far as the ABS system failure itself, i hear that if it goes, whatever it is, you still have regular brakes as a non-ABS model would.
That's what I've heard. I'd appreciate any comments on this.

Mine is a 2002, 50,032km. I've never had any issues with ABS other than loving it! Personally, if mine decide to stop working I will probably fork out the cash for repair. The brakes are one of the things that impressed me the most about these bikes. Right from the first ride I took. Almost scary stopping power!

I think I would take the lack of negative responses as a good sign. Mine is an '02 with 73,500 miles and no issues except the occasional flashing lights once every couple of years. Shutdown and restart restores everything OK. Servo failures are not something I have heard a lot about, so I think the issue is rare, certainly not common.

If mine every dies, I'll probably just convert it to a non-ABS bike!

My servo/ABS 2004 R1150RT had 125000 km on it when sold last year.
No problem with the brakes - but I was conscientious about flushing the wheel circuit every year and the control circuit every 2 years as per service schedule.
Brakes were great though a little bitey. I loved them.

2002 R1150R ABS at 23,000 miles. No trouble (touch wood) and had hydraulic fluids changed every 2 years. By a dealer.

Tried the brakes moderately hard the other day and the stopping power was amazing.

That whining sound holding the bike at the traffic lights is wearing though.

Yes, even with ear plugs in I find that whining very annoying. People around me are probably wondering what's wrong with my bike...

my 02 with 15k on the clock, and with abs has flashed at me twice in 3 months.

turn off/on goes away. When its flashing, I have very stiff/sticky brakes, but they still work.

I am like you, this concerned me AFTER buying it I read many horror stories... My concern is that it would die and leave me with no brakes stranded, with no choice but to fork over 2k. Or WORSE, die when rounding a corner or something, causing a crash.... eek.. But it appears that isnt the case.

WHen/if mine dies, I will just delete the abs i think. But I will enjoy them until then....even when it cries at me at stoplights whiiiiiriririririrrrrrrr LOL
