It's always great to talk about all the great stuff we get for our bikes but it seems there's no thread on mods/farkles that didn't fare so well. Figured that by sharing our mistakes with other R1150R riders, we'd be able to reduce others' remorse.
Here's mine: I purchased the Aerostich PDM60 thinking that it would bring order to the electronic chaos that lurked ahead for me (aux lights, jacket, gps, led). But I really couldn't find a reasonable spot to position it on my 1150R and so back it went. Perhaps if it was smaller and less spaghetti-ed? I can see it working for an RT or bigger bike.
So without bashing products, vendors, or manufacturers, what were yours? You know you have at least one......
Some years ago my first R got knocked over in a parking lot. Did a bunch of damage, among others the battery leaked and etched the touring shield. Not wanting to spend another $200+ for a new shield I found an aftermarket replacement. I had it shipped to my workplace since I worked out of town all week. Got back in town on a Friday afternoon, carried the new shield (in it's box) out to my truck in the parking lot. Just as I reached my truck my cell phone rang, I stopped at the back of the truck and sat the box down on the ground. Answered the phone. Forgot about the box, got in the truck and promptly backed over my new shield. Does this count?

TW - that counts - don't put stuff where you can either run over it or have it fall off your truck as your drive off. BTW, I have a BMW R1150R spare shield if you are looking for one.... will let it go really really cheap. Oh, this was another regret for me - this shield buffeted me.
When I first got my 1150R it had a front mudguard from a K series bike (K1200 I think). I thought it looked awful so refitted the standard one which I think suits the overall design far better.
Struggling to find a screen that gives as good a riding experience as my 1100GS. I have a feeling it doesn`t exist.

Thanks for the offer but that bike and shield was totaled in late 2007. I replaced it with a 2004 that had both touring and sport shields and still have the 3. I'm hoping to wear out the 2004 but I've a long way to go!

Not a part, but I've returned clothing before that just 'didn't work'.
BMW TourMaster(?) jacket (the first version) - I took it back because the collar left a gaping hole at the back that water just runs into off your helmet, and the side pocket velcro just fell apart.
Also returned a few 'waterproof' jackets and trousers that leaked almost immediately - since then I'll NEVER buy a piece of waterproof kit from rail: my theory is that whenever people try on a jacket and it's a bit small for them, they stretch the seams too much and thus break the seal. So I'll try it on, then insist on getting a fresh, un-tried version from the stock room. Never had a problem since.
