Givi 076-SR683 mount question

Post by hagri »

Hello

New owner here - got 2002 R1150R. Would like to re-use my Givi top box and almost ordered the mounting kit (Givi 076-SR683) but looking closer I don't think it will work.
Here is the picture of how it should be mounted - notice two bolts and kind of hand grab they supposed to attach to:

Mine is missing those (it did came with BMW System cases):

So my question is - can I get this hand grabs/rails from BMW and fit them to my bike? Or is there another option for mounting Givi top case?

Well, if anyone curious - http://www.ascycles.com/detail.aspx?ID=28043 , $84 a piece
Also requires bolts kit ($42)

So my total went from $150 for just givi rack to $150 for givi rack, $210 for new side rails and bolts :-)

Are those pics of your bike Hagri? It looks like there are hard bags on that bike. Aren't they mounted on the same rails you would need for the Givi box?

Yes, these are picture of my bike (except first one)
My rails are a different - they do not have hand grab rail (which has two mounting holes for BMW rack or Givi top box rack).
Hand grab is circled in red on the first picture (stock picture from Givi)

I've got the Givi rack, you described above. It does need the original BMW luggage rack. I don't know what kind of rack you have. Is it a third party or the original BMW rack with the passenger handgrips sawed off? But ever considered a second hand set. You can get the Givi rack for just € 40 at http://www.boonstraparts.com/en/onderde ... 01150%20R/. I bought mine second hand (but it was brandnew and never mounted) for € 45. This set at Boonstra is new and in the original box with all the parts you need. Now all you need is a second hand BMW rack.

The side rails you have are the ones from a GS, some R owners used them when they did plan on having a luggage rack. The R1150R side rails would require the factory luggage rack or the Givi top case mount for the installation to be complete.
