Any idea what this is?

When I dismantled the FD last year to replace the crown bearing and seal, I found this in the FD. It is a fairly elastic but made of metal. Looks like a connected spring. It wasn't in any of the parts diagrams so I suspected it was from either the damaged bearing or the old seal. You never like to put something back together and end up with an extra part of two. It's always bothered me a little so thought I would ask if anyone recognizes this.

something for scale might be handy..... what diameter is it?

it kinda looks like a seal-spring? (some seals have a spring hooked into them)

I would say that is FD seal sized. So, probably you're right.
