Need advice on buy a bike in Britain

Now that I am retired, I am thinking of going to Britain for a year and buying a used bike to tour Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales. I am thinking of going to Ireland first and making my purchase there. Has anyone bought a bike over there? Any advice about how to do it would be really appreciated.

If there is a better place on the board for this message, please advise me.

You'll probably find a better bike, more easily, within GB than in Eire. but that's just a guess.

Let us know if you do come over - I can probably show you some of the biker haunts in the South East.
