How do you get your bike to start in the teens?

Good question!
I usually try not to get stuck riding in sub 25 F but have while traveling in the mountains had some very cold starts 15 F or so. The Li battery's don't like to be cold soaked but what you have to do is be patient. Hitting the start button in very cold conditions will result in slow turn over but it will generate heat and cause the battery to warm up. So you hit the starter for 3 or 4 seconds the pause for about 3 min or so and the second time you hit the start button it will turn over much quicker. (and start)
In very cold conditions (teens) I have never had a problem w/ starting and once the battery is warmed up it back to normal ops.

This is for (in my opinion) very cold conditions where the machine has been sitting all nite in a parking lot.
Its worth it (li) for the power and weight saving.

The worst I have had was in the Rockys' 11,000' motel parking lot, 4 f...the above technique was successful. (let it warm up but wait till temp got to 20 f before riding Ha!

Removed of the cat and fitted a Y-piece in its place, removed the standard exhaust and replaced it with an Akrapovic Titanium exhaust, removed the big and lumpy iABS (which wasn't working properly anymore). That's a lot of weight, all together.
Replaced standard battery with a MotoBatt MB51814 AGM battery, 22A instead of 19A and 220 CCA.
No problems starting the bike at low temperatures.

That's teens Fahrenheit? Gulp, my bike doesn't come out of winter hibernation until it reaches into the teens Celsius.

Well you should be riding now. It's fantastic out there. Mid 20s in Celsius. Mornings are still cold though. Just +4 Celsius this moring.

Summer weather has suddenly kicked in this week, 22C forecast , was out on the BMW yesterday and going out on my bicycle today. Weather was grim at Easter this year.Rain, sleet and wet snow.
