Heated grips not working

Heated grips not working. First time I've tried them since last winter when they worked fine. I checked the fuse and it looks fine.
Anyone had a similar problem?

Yup.
My right-hand grip died early this season.
It was covered under warranty. They simply replaced the entire right grip.

No problems since the replacement. Apparently not that uncommon.

Don't know how inclined you are to troubleshoot, but you need to lift the tank to access the connectors. From there you should measure ~ 9 ohms across each heater. This is how I isolated a broken wire in one of the cables, but.....If both heaters are not working I suspect the power source - make sure the fuse is indeed OK.

Bobby,
Did you put a meter on the fuse ? Those BMW fuses are a bit difficult
to eyeball. Mine had a little clear window on top. Try popping that off and looking if no meter is avaliable or just replace it. Mine shorted out on the throttle side a while back. Good luck

Thanks for the replies, I'll just replace the fuse anyway and see if that does it. I have 45,000 miles on it so I am out of warranty. If the fuse doesn't fix it, I'll explore further when I take the tank off at the 48,000 mile service.

My bike was trucked into the bike shop this morning, with dead starter button, cutting out if the bars are turned right and no indicators on the right. It started with just the indicators so be aware little faults can grow into bigger ones.

Last week, I had the right side switch gear replaced on my '04 R1150R. Apparently, the factory ties down the wiring harness too tightly and forces the harness to repeatedly flex severely in a single spot - right at the head of a bolt. That repeated flexing weakens and then breaks wires inside the harness - like bending a wire coat hanger repeatedly in the same spot.

My symptom was the right turn signal only working intermittently and the right grip heater not working on rare occasions. I figured out that if the steering head was turned full right, the turn signal worked just fine. Capitol BMW replaced the switch/harness assembly and all is well. I understand that this is a common problem on the Roadster.

Just had a call from the shop the bike it is all fixed again. What stars they are. Fitten the bike in a short notice, lent me a bike for the day and it's all done so I can pick it up on the way home.

I had the right grip on my 2003 R1150R die, and the dealer replaced it under warranty.

Note to everyone - now that it is getting cooler, check the operation of your heated grips before you get out of a chilly ride!

46 degrees(F) this morning - first time I used the "two dots" position
on the heated grips - WOW!

Those things get friggen hot!

I love this bike!!
