Can somebody tell me if the Royal Star has nothing more than a "detuned V-four from the old V-Max"???
I was riding behind a Royal Star with it's after-market pipes one day, and kept hearing a muscle car with a high performance engine somewhere behind me..... sounded phuck'n awesome. I was getting impatient with the inexperienced rider ahead of me on his Royal Star, until I realized that the sound I kept hearing (I had my ear plugs in) was coming from that Royal Star!?!?!?!?!
I'm telling ya, I wish that newbie in front of me knew to blip that throttle once in a while. THAT BIKE HAD THE SEXIEST SOUND COMING OUT OF A CRUISER I HAVE EVER HEARD! If the V-Max can be made to sound like that.... OHMYGOD!
By the way, I don't like the V-Max for what it looks like..... I like it more for it's history, it's stand-alone-ness, and the notion of it's powerful V-four. Looks isn't everything....... for instance, you wouldn't know of my studly sordid past by simply looking at me.
The V-Max is back..dose anyone care?

It's pretty ironic that BMW owners are complaining about other bikes being ugly. Rather kettle calling pot black, don't you think?
I like this V-Max look. It resembles the K1200R but with a proper V-twin. That is one rice burner that I wouldn't mind having.

Cogito Ergo Vroom - I think therefore I ride.

Show bike or production?
Is this new V-Max a concept bike built for the show circuit or is it the real production bike?
The original might not be to everybody's taste, but it sure worked for Yamaha! Even today when you see one you still take a second look -- far less anonymous than all those look-alike racer reps!

A few years back I had the hots for one, that is, until I rode it. The straight line acceleration, for it's time was brutal after 6,000 rpm, once the second set of buterflies came into the picture.
The chassis, front suspension and brakes left something to be desired, along with the weight. The thing that turned me off the most was the slight foot forward riding position.....not my cup of tea.
A couple of years ago I ran into a guy that had replaced the front end on his V-Max with that of 100O GXXR, replaced the rear shocks with a set of Works Performance and put the bike on a diet.....painted a blend of candy apple. Let me just say that the sucker looked awesome.....
That new V-Max certainly looks muscular......I would presume that the shortcomings of the earlier model have been adressed.

According to the Yamaha folks at the Tokyo Auto Show where this thing is displayed, this V-Max is in the very early stages of prototype.
I don't know why this information isn't in the magazines or online write ups, the yamaha people talk about it freely (In Japanese mostly.)
