As in many of the responses you'll hear on this board, people will offer an opinion, even when they have NO data to back it up.
I've used the 'string type' patch (for lack of a better description) with lots of patch glue to slime them up, and have never even had a slow leak. A dozen times in car tires, a few times on motorcycle tires. This type of patch CAN'T pop out, in my opinion (just looking at how they work should convince you of that). So I'm perfectly happy and feel perfectly safe on a plugged tire. (With the type of patch I'm talking about).
The patchs on my car tires are just fine for the life of the tire, and I wear them down to dangerous levels.
I think those that worry about patches, put in properly, probably also don't ride their bikes during meteor showers, since they might get hit.
