De-beaking the R-R

As a new owner of the R1150R, I think it is a very cleanly styled bike except for the fugly front fender. What is the best way to take it back through time to when fenders were fenders? Can a Rockster fender or an RT or RS fender be made to fit? - Lee

Unless you look at the Rockster fender.

Actually, the K-GT or K-RS fender bolts right on with a small amount of minor trimming. I didn't do it, but a few people here have. There were several posts on the subject a while back.

Becasue the Rockster front end is from the R1100S, the fender does not bolt on to the Roadster.

This pic came from page three of the "Users Rides" section on the r1150r.net home page. It is the top right image posted by some member named Jack early in the boards history. He states that the fender is from the K-RS.

You may think the beak is ugly, but the K-RS fender makes for a very long distance between the fender and the headlight. The pic shoul give you an idea whether you really want to do this or not.

Thanks, I'll try to look up the reference. I hadn't looked at that option, but I held a K-LT fender up to it and it looked like something off the front of a Indian Chief. - Lee

That's the look I'm after. I don't mind the "long distance" as my headlight is in the parts bin soon to be replaced by an HID headlight in the front of a Hannigan fairing.

And get rid of those ugly cylinders that stick out sideways... ew. I think there's a modification to get them turned in like a Harley.

If you drop it a couple of times both sides you get a moto guzzi.

I never liked the beak..but I'm used to it now..from the front it looks like a big ugly triangle box..but from the side it blends in nice with the lines of the bike..I like it now.

If you remove the Beak, you will not be allowed to attend the Beakster Bash.

That sleek front fender look just ain't right. That'd be like cuttin' the fins off a '58 Caddy Eldorado.

I've been riding beemers for for 30 years Lance, so I am not trying to make it something it is not. It is more an attempt to recover the former classic nature of the animal as it was before David Robb and his cadre of tassle-loafered "stylists" gained influence. I like big jugs I just don't like hairlipped fenders. - Lee

I replaced the beak with a Wunderlich "Front Mudguard 'W-BR02'". You may have to scroll down to find it on their web site below:

You don't have to have the wild paint job, as you paint it yourself and can do it all in one color. Anyway, I have been very pleased with the fender.

I also got the dingle fairing but never installed it.

I'm a beak freak, I love the beak. It's unique, like the BMW compared to a Harley or Harley wanna be - different, better, high tech and beakafied!!

Hmmm, guess I'm weird . . . that's one of the reasons I bought the bike, I like the styling and think the beak makes it unique. Now that they're not making them anymore, even more of a unique look. Why try to make the bike ordinary. Like Apple says, think different!

It seems odd to me that someone who is concerned about the front fender would leave the emissions canister on. I don't have a problem with the front fender, but, the can and a piece of the rear fender and the extender had to go. The can is under the tank(no ABS).

I don't know what's the big deal with swapping it out with the RRS beak. The RRS fender is very beak like and follows the angle/slash of the oil coolers better than the OEM beak.

My Roadster is gone (I miss that bike), but lives on with many of you who purchased the parts and accessories...

The RRS three piece front fender is still available and the only item I have left from my R1150R.

When I bought my R in '03, I was split on the looks, but figured the bike was too great to pass up. I considered fender replacements, like Rivi's excellent job. I was even kickin myself for not buying a Rockster, even though I hated the headlights and lower bars. But thats completely changed.

Most things age poorly to me, myself included! But I love the beak now, in certain angles its absolute art. I go out to my garage on occasion just to look at the R. From certain angles, it can look weird. But, I have yet to see a motorcycle that looks great from every angle. The new Paul Smart Ducatis come close though!

I would like to see a rockster fender/fork with a roadster headlight though...anyone?
