Now I have to be careful here...
Now I have to be very careful here...
And I swear this is simply curiosity and wanting to keep everything straight in my own mind... Nothing more.
But wasn't it a "guest" that caused all the furor over the post with the fully-clothed women at the display at the international motorcycle show?
I am not trying to "stir the pot", or criticize Doug or the moderators in any way, shape, or form here. I just want to know what happened.
Thanks!

Well, Bud...
That's an interesting question. To be quite honest, after all the flames and furor over the NR-500 story being the "spark" that sent off this tempest in a teapot, I just don't know if I have it in me at the moment.
You see, I honestly was doing the entire story from memory (and that's why there might be some holes or gaps in the story with dates, etc.), and I was kind of into remembering all that back when I started the story. I don't know if you have done any serious writing, but if you have then you know you have to be in kind of the "right place" for a story to flow out freely.
I was "in" that place... that "zone", if you will, when I was first writing the NR-500 saga. Unfortunately I'm not "in" that place right now. I had also done a considerable amount of work searching up all the correct pictures, graphs, images of letters, race results, etc. and had them right at hand back when I was writing it, but now I don't have that stuff bookmarked or handy... So to finish the story from where it was will take me about a day or so to gather up all those correct images again, and right now I just don't have the time.
I sincerely apologize to everyone that was interested in the NR-500 saga and had taken the time to read it and post their thoughts on it. I truly appreciated the support. I just hope everyone understands that writing something like the NR-500 piece is not an easy endeavor, though it is an enjoyable one when your head is "in" the right place.
Mine's just not there for the NR-500 for the moment... Hopefully it will start popping up at the front of my synapses again soon, and when it does I will try to finish it in its entirety then.
The Honda NR-500 saga is to me one of the most fascinating stories in the entire history of motorcycling, and it is actually a subject I considered writing a book about one day. I was close to some of the key players at one time, and I am good friends with the only man to ever win a heat race on one... If I ever got the time I was going to do some travelling and visit and interview all the people I could find that had something to do with the project. The story has everything a truly great, tragic tale should have... Passion, intrigue, political infighting, creativity, fascinating characters, attempts to conquer nearly impossible and insurmountable odds, some success, lots of failure, public praise and public ridicule, tragedy, even some romance, and actually in the end, a true heroic success against all those daunting odds... Though the public has never really been told of that.
The story is so damn good that Hollywood *SHOULD* make a movie out of it, but we know they never will...
I might still write that NR-500 book one day if I live long enough, but I promise that if my mind gets wandering about the NR any time soon you guys will get the shorter, "Readers Digest Condensed" version first!
I hope you folks understand.
Thanks!

Are we ever going to get the rest of the story![]()

Allan,
Anybody who has ever done any creative writing of any quality understands writer's block. Once you get knocked out of that zone, for whatever reason, it's hard to get it back. I hope the planets line up again for you to finish the story sometime. I really enjoyed watching it unfold. When it does, be sure and let us know.

Dallara,
The reason that this story interests me is because of my design background. Presently I am back up here in Colorado as a design consultant on a new imaging satellite. I was launch manager for the first commercial imaging satellite launched from the Russian Federation in 1997. I helped assemble the optic package and followed the satellite through test and integration at Goddard Space Flight Center. I flew with the sat to the Svobodney Cosmodrome as launch manager. There are stories I could tell about the design, problems with Russian launch vehicles etc.....however few here would find them as interesting as the NR-500 story. I'm not bragging here, just trying to give you an idea of the interest that your telling the NR-500 story has. You really must continue so that the rest of us who will never experience that incredible process can at least enjoy it through your recollection. Oval pistons? Wow! I can only imagine the sealing problems, metallugy of the rings and bores, bearing loads and valve flow design parameters that you described. This is great stuff.
When I was a teenager my uncle, Tommy Barnes, along with his friend and business partner dingle Troutman, designed the Scarabs for Lance Reventlowe. I watched as a teenager never realizing until I was an adult that I had seen design magic take place. The NR-500 story is much, much bigger than that and needs telling.
No offense to this site, but I have never heard so much pissing and moaning over minutia....... and the story is lost in the smoke and bull poo.
When you get "in the mood" please go ahead and let's hear it.

Main site link
Maybe the main site link to the boards (the "Go" button at the top of http://www.r1150r.org/) should point to the section index (http://www.r1150r.org/board/index.php), not the r1150r section. I suspect there's quite a few people that don't realize there are other areas at all.
Also, it seems like the FAQ section is woefully thin. This board isn't anyone's job, of course, but if there a way for basic users to recommend a post be moved there (other than an informal IM)? And probablybetter yet, move it 'above the fold', so users see it first (like, right under the K1200R forum).
Just suggestions....

YEAH, MattPie!!!
*YEAH*, MattPie !!!
Two of the very *BEST* ideas I have seen for improvements to the board.
And so friggin' obvious that one wonders why nobody has thought of 'em before!
Man, please PM Doug with these suggestions, as they would be simple, easy, and quick to implement, be minimally labor intensive, and wouldn't cost a dime.
Outstanding! Kudos to you, MattPie!
