Jump start kit

Post by rock712 »

Has anyone heard of a jumpstart kit for motorcycles?

Something that may plug into the accessory outlet.

I was thinking about getting one that they use for cars but am worried about frying the electrics.

right now the batt. is on a tender but when i pull it out of storage the bike will sit outside.

Thanks

You need to be carefull about jumping your motorcycle's battery. The amperage of the car you are jumping from can be too high for the bike and damage the circuitry.

You can buy an accessory port cable for a battery tender and use it to hook the positive cable too.

Sierra BMW sells these.

Jumping off a car battery is perfectly safe, your bikes starter will only use the amps it needs. You just have to be carefull about keeping the polarity right and disconnect the cables asap so that the cars alternator doesn't blast your little battery with its 100 amp (on average) capability(I would suggest jumping with the cars engine off). I thought that you could get the parts from bmw to install remote jumper lugs.

another vote for car engine off. You can do it - the hardest thing to overcome is access to the battery should you not have a ciggy/accessory cable

Is there such an animal as the jumpstart kit that plugs directly into the cigarette lighter/power plug? I had my Rockster retrofitted with the jumpstart positive plug. I also have a RoadGear.com cable that I carry with me on extended trip. This jumper cable is very compact and light.

My Rockster came with all of the above listed goodies, including a jumpstart node on the frame? Did the older ones not. I also have a little set of cables with a circuit breaker from the local autozone.

Cheers
