Newbie...

Post by \\Mike_Lea// »

Hi there,

I've recently purchased an '03 Rockster which, so far, I'm really impressed with.

I'm looking for a new extra bits 'n pieces to add, one of which is already on order; Baglux tank cover. The other items I'm considering are a rear hugger, cylinder head protectors and the BM' pannier rails 'n rack.

Any advice regarding the above would be more than welcome.

One point I'm particular concerned about is ground clearance. On all the pictures I've seen the cylinder heads look mighty close to the tarmac, is this a problem, trick of the camera ???

I'm not a knee-down sort of rider really, but I'd be interested to know what everyone else thinks...

Congrats and welcome.

No need to worry about touching the cylinders in a turn...

even at the point where you can slid your knee the cylinders are not close..sticky tires on a race track you might get close.

The tank cover might scuff the matt black...someone else might know more about that.

The small plastic valve cover protectors are good for a gentle tip over..that's about all..but still worth it..IMO.

I think the case rails and rear rack finishes the rear end off and give a pillion something to grab.

There has been some issues with the rear huggers breaking so you might want to suss that out.

I would recommend the BMW locking oil filler cap..for the piece of mind that no one will tamper with it.

Thanks for the info, and the welcome !

I think I'll definately go for the head covers; The hugger I spotted on the Wunderlich website / PDF catalogue download. Think it was a carbon fibre version, not sure if that just looking or real thing, I can't remember...

I read the thread regarding the tank cover... With my last bike, Triumph Speed Triple, I put gaffer tape over all the joins on the underside of the cover which seemed to help.

Is it likely to scuff due to the fact the paint is matt or purely 'cos of the design ???

Cheers,

M :)

Real Deal...

Nice one... Is that real deal as the BM' part ?? I'm keen to keep the crud at bay as best I can. Might even go for a fender extender.

I've just read you post again... Just realised you're talking 'bout the Wunderlich. I've had a couple 'o beers !

So the Wunderlich is worth the cash then... Did you fit it yourself ? Easy to do ?

First of all, your cylinder head will not touch the ground before your pegs do. So lean all you want.

Secondly, I think there's a member here who makes some beautiful head protectors out of aluminum for quite reasonable prices.

Check it out http://www.stantonheadguards.com/
Cogito Ergo Vroom - I think therefore I ride.

Wunderlich and worth the money aren't often used in the same sentence but hey......fitting is easy peasy tho. It goes on brake caliper bolts, two minute job. Good luck

So would a pyramid hugger be a better bet ? The CF version is about the same price.

Got mine from Ebay. £80 or something for fibreglass - looks good and solid. Do use a torque wrench to tighten the screws/bolts (do not use it to UNDO screws/bolts) - 40 NM torque.

I got mine through a relative who lived in Ireland at the time so I paid the European price rather than the Rip Off Britain price.Worked out about £110 2yrs ago as opposed to £200 or there abouts. As Duke says, use a torque wrench to fit it!! Good luck

That's the Wunderlich then... Does look good I have to say, esp. as you've got a carbon fibre can.

Might have a look around, see if I can get one via ebay or something.
