What I have learned since owning the R1150R

Post by mzzogrno »

Here is what I have learned since owning this bike .... feel free to add ...

1. Like a great-looking woman I can't walk by it without checking it out each and every time with a strong desire to ride her.

2. Side-cases are nearly impossible to buy used or aftermarket.

3. At certain speeds in some gears it sounds like a sewing machine (high powered sewing machine).

4. Accessories seem to be hard to find relative to other bikes.

5. R1150R owners tend to be a dedicated-to-the-brand bunch.

6. Black is the best looking fastest color. Only black 1150r truly attracts women.

7. I never got used to the 2 engine sticking out of the side of the bike. I have grown to like this not so sleek look.

8. Custom seat is a requirement.

9. The bike looks best naked.

10. I highly doubt I would ever sell mine.

I agree, except for points 8 and 10.

My wife and I are real lightweights - so the seat has not been a major issue.

And...other than my son, wife, and my c.1974 Fender P-Bass.....EVERYTHING is for sale, for the right price!!

I don't know how many times I told you guys, chicks dig the red one! :smt049 :smt061 :smt049

Other things I've learned about my R1150R:

Used system cases are only available for $400+, regardless of condition. :smt017

Fill the oil, check the gas before every ride. :smt045

Harley riders refuse to admit they like the bike regardless of how long their stares linger. [-(

I can't hear my bike when following said Harley rider. :-$

Squids on turbocharged Gixxers think its an "awesome ride dude"! :smt023

Oh yeah, most people don't know that BMW builds motorcycles! :smt104

Cheers,
BigJugs

I wouldn't give up the search for used cases. They are frequently available (either nothing or a whole bunch comes up) on the ADVrider site.

Got mine for $340 shipped, locks rekeyed too.
Not perfect but some time spent with steel wool and some polishing stuff cleaned them up.

Good points and I agree with many of them. At this stage, I would not replace my Roadster with anything BMW, or anyone else for that matter, offers. I might add a few if I had the money, but I love this bike. It does all I need it to do, does it well and looks good doing it.

As for color choice, check out the sig line!

My only question is about #4 - what accessories haven't you been able to find?

No, no, no...you've all got it wrong. You take the good basis of the 1150 r, get rid of the "gentlemans carriage" range of colors and the beak, add a 180 rear tire, different tacho, Cf front guard, lower bars and black-out everything, and THEN you have a truly eye-catching BMW with unique attitude. :D Yes, it's a Rockster! 8)

Scurrying back to the rockster section....

I've ridden a fair amount of modern bikes in the past few years and even own a couple others besides my Roadster. But the world never feels quite so right as it does when I'm riding my R. It's like hanging out with an old friend.

Things I've learnt whilst owning an 'R'? The brake servo motor is louder than the engine and Atlanta Blue looks fast even when it's standing still

Interesting thread....

one thing I have learned is that my Harley owner friends are VERY sensitive . They get P.O.'ed when I tell them how my bike performs....even though THEY ASK....

This 'chick' prefers black...although red is a close 2nd.

yjleesvrr...I agree, I have owned several other bikes in my life as well and the RR just feels like a good friend...

I will elevate her to best friend staus next week when I upgrade her seat.

'Ahhhh there you go...atta a girl.'

When I go to cruiserfest my R is the one the HD guys stop to look at.
