Tires - Michelin Pilot Powers

Post by domekrome »

I just had a pair of these mounted on the Rockster, and I cannot believe how sticky they are

I knew that they would be sportier, but OMG. They're not even fully scrubbed in, and they just grip the road like a hot damn!

The profile is a bit taller than my Z6s, and the rear of the bike feels a bit higher. Just a seat of the pants impression. Flickability is another word that comes to mind with these bad boys, and stability also. They hold my chosen lines, and allow adjustment as needed - again these are not even scrubbed in yet.

I am having to adjust my mindset to their characteristics, and to that end I'll be putting on about 700kms tomorrow. I don't expect them to last beyond 10-11,000kms, but that is okay they just need to last until July, when I will replace them, with Z6s again, for a 4 week riding vacation.

Now, I worry about sounding like a shill, and a gushing one at that, but these tires have already won me over.

Hey Jason, great to hear about the Power Pilots...I'm on my second set of Z6s and maybe next time will give those a try.

Let us know how they are after a bit more mileage

Thanks,

So I had to cancel my 700km ride due to cold & inclement weather :smt090 . Instead, I took a quick jaunt along the Sea to Sky Highway, to Squamish. That's 130km round trip for me. The tires are scrubbed in now, even though it was done in the rain. Air temperature was about 8 degrees Celcius, rain was falling steadily and these tires performed better than I thought was possible in these conditions. The Powers allowed me to set a pace not far off my summer one for the same route. I am amazed at their abilities, and what those did for mine. They work well with the stock suspension to communicate the state of the road's surface, I can only imagine what these things do in more capable hands. :smt054 :smt054 :smt054

Can I ask what a set of these cost you? I've been thinking about which way to go, as so much of my riding is on cold pavement (I ride here in the spring and fall, where temperatures can affect how 'agressive' I feel I can be...). Longevity is not as important as confidence in cold conditions..

PS...You had to handle wet and 8 degrees....here it's just cold...and watch for killer gravel patches...still lots on the road from the winter of sanding. Good to be out though!

They were $700CDN mounted & incl. tax.

I now have 400kms on them, and I am still amazed by their grip, I can only hope that I will feel the same way in another month, as I should have another 1500-2000kms on by then, if not more.

I now have about 1800kms on these tires, and I still love them. My only misgiving is the profile of the front tire. Between the increased traction and the profile, I find myself making more adjustments to my lines, as the bike almost feels like it is "dropping" into the turn(s)/corner(s). Perhaps it is just a matter of me not being accustomed to the tires' characteristics yet.
