I have just got me a nice black 1150r with the side luggage , but I have a nice black givi top box that i would like to fit as well. Can you tell me what sorte of bracket I need to fix the top box to my bike?????

Givi makes a bracket for the "R". It's a little pricey but it's very neat and solid so you can ride down the road with confidence.

To mount a Givi Top Box you have two choices:
1. Givi sells a Kit that is model specfic which replaces the optional factory luggage rack (luggage side rails required). This is the strongest solution if you plan to carry much weight or use the box as a backrest for a passenger. The kit has a Monolock mounting plate, a pair of arms that help transfer weight forward to the side rack mounting points and all necessary mounting hardware. I think the kit # is SR683 and runs abount $130.
2. You can mount a Givi universal mounting plate to the optional factory luggage rack. With this option you can mount a monokey or monlock case.
If you watch e-bay sometimes these items come up.

I used the Givi Universal mount. It has worked very well.

I started with an adaptor plate on the rear rack, went to a made-up rack assembly, and then spent the bucks on the full Givi SR683 mount for a big trip and heavy load of luggage.

Best thing I could have done. Very strong and far better than anything else if you have to carry some weight.

A few notes though - The kit comes with the 'Monokey' plate, not the 'Monolock'.

Also, it does place the box very close to the pillion seat. Great to keep the weight forward, but does not allow a lot of space for a pillion. Keep that in mind. You may still want the strength, but that will mean re-mounting the plate an inch or two further back.

Doesn't sound like much does it? Makes all the difference to the pillion.

Agree with MIXR. I too bought the mounting plate from GIVI. It is the only way to go. Bought the V46 box on ebay. I then bought the backpad that mounts on the box. But with the back pad installed my SO had no room. I removed the pad and she uses the box directly for support and has no complaints, about the box , that is.

I mounted an E450 monolock case using the mounting plate that came with it. Mounted that plate directly to the BMW luggage rack with the bolts etc provided by Givi. Have had no problems at all with it staying on the bike and it has been subjected to quite some abuse. The mounting plate can be moved forward or back on the BMW plate to keep it forward, but leave room for the passenger. MTC

Motobins in the UK do a Hepco & Becker rack that fits in the rails - any old universal plate will then fit to it.

The benefit of the Givi set-up is that it uses four mounting points, each with two bolts. The rear 'arms' add the extra strength needed for a pillion rest or loaded bike. I took mine around Aus with way too much gear, and it stayed rock solid. Some don't like the 'chunky' looks of the Givi system, but I think it's ok. Prefer function and reliability over form anyway.

MIXR is absolutely correct.
After installing GIVI case I was not able to ride with a pillion until I relocated GIVI case 5 inches back just by installing additional plate.

Hi guys, just bought a cheapo 39 liter GIV topbox and had a friend fabricate a stand that screws into the side rails. (see pics please). Now that I've seen how some of yours were mounted, I'm having second thoughts about how sturdy and stable (or otherwise) mine is. I'm also not too sure if it's set too high. As an aside, I am very delighted with its function and am fully aware that some of the guys wouldn't want a GIVI on their beloved bikes.

Any posted thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Which GIVI case did you use? I have the GIVI Monokey rack mounted. I can't decide between the E35 or the E45 case. I like the fact the E45 will hold more, but I don't want it to look too big. The picture of yours looks about right.

I went for the E45 as I needed the space for a big trip. It's fine. If it's too big, then you can travel with it half empty. If you get the smaller one and it's too small - Well, you end up with extra stuff strapped on somewhere else. The E45 is 45 litres. E35 is 36 litres capacity. That's liquid capacity and takes into account all the shape changes and cutouts etc.

I also added four 'Bungee Buddys' to the top for strapping down my swag or sleeping bag, or wet clothes, or whatever. The cases have the reinforced mounts in the lids where the optional luggage rack goes.

I think the E45 and E35 are now dead models with Givi. Have been replaced by the slimmer and more rounded series.

I just got myself a givi E360 (I think that was it?!) box off ebay, and decided to go straight for the proper bracket. It's Ã‚Â£60 odd, but worth it, it's really strong, and that box isn't going anywhere in a hurry (touch wood

Thanks, MIXR, for the information. I liked the shape of the older boxes better. Maybe I can luck onto a used one. I'll probably go with the 45 liter case.

Yeah - I went with the older E series because they seem to match the side cases better. Plenty still around in the shops here, and on ebay all the time, but no longer in the Givi catalogue. I needed one in a hurry when I got mine 18 months ago, and there were no second-hand ones to be had. AUD$300 - Ouch!

The SR kit cost me about AUD$150, but worth every cent. Very solid and strong. The Hepco Becker does not mount as solidly as I recall when I looked at it. I'm now trying to figure a way to mount a large dog box to the bike so I can carry my Border Collie on trips. Let's see - That's 6 kg for the dog box and 18 kg for the dog - I think I need some extra mounts attached to the pillion pegs!

Indeed, the newer models are more rounded. My E20N is rectangular and blends well with my system cases. It can also swallow my Schuberth helmet and then some, quite easily! Quite cheap for something like $45!
