Putting the bike up - tire question

Post by pjbmw »

Well, I threw in the towel today and put the bike up for the winter. It's going to be a rainy and cold week in the Green Mountain state and snow is on the way.
One question about tires over the winter. Should I pump them up above the riding recommended to say 40+ psi? I keep hearing from old timers that you should.

I don't know about the higher pressure, but make sure to have both wheels off the ground. The higher pressure probably could help the tire(s) from forming a flat spot.

:smt023 YO! PJBMW

don't lay up your bike up for the winter ride through the dry bit's  if you do take the bike of the road for a long time :?: put a block of wood about 4"x2" under the centre stand make sure the wheels are off the ground/ pump up the tires to 10psi over recommended pressure :smt023 and rub some Vaseline over the chrome bit's keep bike dry and cover with an old bed sheet till spring :?:all so as you say hook up a battery tender/ charger -the optimate111 is brill for this

OVER in the USA the winters are dryer than in England :!: over in Yorkshire England the local authoritys cover the roads in rock salt in winter to stop ice forming  it plays hell with the paint and chrome on the bike :(
"DO the miles get the smiles" ? so many roads so little time. (silver is the fastest ok)
