I'm about 200 miles from the nearest dealer and the last R model I rode for a few hours was the R850R. It fit me perfectly and I'm wondering who can advise me on how that model (same as R110R in position riding) compares to the R1200R and would simple handlebar changes make up the difference.
Thanks

Hi Slipknot
I'm just about to do exactly what you are planning.
My R850R is (was) the best bike in the world until I test-rode a R1200R.
The R850R seat is wider and the whole bike is more leaning towards cruising / comfort. (I must admit I ride it with the Wunderlich Ergo seat and the Verholen lower footrests.)
The R1200R has a little more legroom than the R850R and definitely more than the R1150R (which I had the chance to ride for 4000 miles last year).
It is a very ergonomic bike. And it does have some push....
You should test-ride it anyhow, but then probably you will fall in the same trap as many of us: Testing is addictive and directly leads to buying!
Cheers and good luck

Thanks all. I recall a thight angle at the knees on the R850R which took a bit of time to adjust to but it was not something that would keep me off the bike. What I found really perfect was the upright postition and the relaxed arm position. I have some neck and hand injuries which the 850 addressed beter than any medical professional (go BMW!!!). From what I've read in the press the R1200RT would probably work well, the GS is good, only the bars are longer than my arms. And the plastic on the RT is just too much to bear. I can tolerate the styling, it's just too much. The R1200R seems like a great return to the marque for me. My first, a new 1985 R80 naked was terrific for many miles. I want the R1200 R (I think), I'm simply looking for answers to the handlebar, risers, or whatever that may be needed. And a touring shield. The R850R had a great shield, I only wanted to raise it maybe 1 inch. Easy enough. So that's the story. Any other comments are really appreciated.
