Turned 5000 miles today!

Bought my R on 1/3. Didn't really have much of any riding weather until March. The more I ride this bike the more I love it, especially after doing the Smokey's (Dragon, Skyway, etc.) three weeks ago! I am hoping that spring has finally settled in, I switched to my ten inch shield on my Scout today! Shipping my seat off to Rick Mayer on Wednesday. My build date is 5/15.

What with a build date and all it almost sounds like you should be sitting nervously in a waiting room just outside the factory.
Do Rick Mayer's seats have the "wings" on the sides of the seats?

More pics of the Scout? Okay, give me a few days.

Yes, the seat should have the small "wings" off the side. I decided yesterday that I didn't want to be "seatless in Lansing", even if it was only for two weeks. Ordered up another OE seat, overnight shipping. So, when I get my seat back from Rick I will most likely have an OE high seat available to sell. The high seat has a inch more foam and for me, it is much more comfortable than the standard height seat.

I rode a GS of a friend who had a Rick Myer's seat and it was very comfortable. I have a short inseam 30" and wonder if the "wings" would make mounting the bike any harder.
Does Rick Myer have a brother in the seat buisness also?

Rick can build the seat to accomdate a shorter inseam. Rick's brother Bill is also in the seat building business. My buddy did one of his seats a few years back and was not happy with it. Sent it back in twice for adjustments and then ended up selling it. He has never had to send back any of his RM seats. All of them have ended up being perfect when he gets them. I know the leather will naturally make the seat more comfortable. My OE seat is much more comfortable when I am wearing my leather pants.

Mark: You want leather mesh with armor? Mine are unlined except for a thin silk mesh, with no perforations. You'd be surprised how cool they are in the heat. It has to make about 85 or so before I start getting all heated up. But then I guess you've got more summer heat and humidity in TN than we have up here.

I have a Fieldsheer jacket that is more mesh than leather but it has armor. Maybe I should see if they have pants.
It was in the mid 80s here yesterday. Hot for this time of year though.

I might want to "rent" it from you so I can do the same.
You could be able to get all your money back just by renting it to people so they can get their seat done propely.

ChiTown.....I might just do that. First option that I'm going to work on though is to sell it to Rick, so he has one available for a loaner. My guess is that he might want it, as he does not have one yet.

Damn, this bike is fun! I've got to slow down though. Turned 5000 miles on Monday, turned 6000 today. Rode 200 miles north to Traverse City over the weekend to visit dear old Mom. The bike and I seem to have mutual karma on the freeway at 85-86 indicated. About 82 on the computer. And when I need to make a banzai pass of someone going too slow in the passing lane, just WOT in 6th gear and this thing takes names and kicks ass! What a great motorcycle. I am seriously considering selling my LT. Heck, I've hardly ridden it since I bought the RR. Who would have thunk it? Certainly not me, not after after 186,000 miles on four LT's. Oh well, I am just having a ball on this bike!

Please let me know either way, I'd be happy to rent it if he doesn't get it for a loaner. I'd also make a nicer offer to buy the completed seat plus mine, bringing the cost to upgrade down for you.

I'm getting more impatient about this seat issue the more I ride. I have another 4000+ mile trip starting next week, and will be stocking up on Aleve to help my butt on the trip.
I heard from someone that he said he didn't want to have a loaner for this bike, whatever that means. I'm sure that will change as the orders keep coming in.

Chi-Town.....You running the stock height seat or the tall version? I switched from the standard height to the tall version and found it much more comfortable. Still not where it needs to be for long distance for me though. So do I understand you correctly, you want to buy my RM seat and trade your OE one to me? I will keep you in mind for a seat rental if RM doesn't want to buy my extra. Where you headed on your trip?

I'll PM you about "the deal"

I'm headed South, back to Arkansas to fish for a few days, then either keep going south into Mexico, or turn left and ride up to the North East, Vermont, Maine, maybe Canada. I'm playing it by ear, and by weather. 1400 miles to the Mexican border, if I went the shortest route, but that will never happen.... Really depends on the weather, I'm only bringing mesh with a gerbings this time, so I'll avoid temps below 50F.
This trip I'll be riding/camping 2 up, so no room for touring jackets and mesh.
