I just took delivery of my R1200R and it only came with one key. The manual says that it should come with a spare key. How many keys do you have?

Both BMWs I have bought new came with two keys that have a black handle, plus a third key with just the bare metal end for customizing the little handle. Then you also have a black plastic piece with the key code stamped on it. If you lose all your keys and still have the little black plastic key code, they can make you another key from it.

Mine came with one real key and a plastic spare. Forgot about the spare, I think I'll try it to make sure it works.

One real key and one plastic wallet spare. The spare is now sewn into my AeroStitch (since I never ride without it..)

Ah - but we're asking about the R1200R - not an 1150 or 650.. BMW used to provide several real keys and one miniature one. Got that with my 1150RS.. not any longer.

I think I have 2 of 3.
My dealer kept one key.
I thought it unusual until I had them pick up the bike from my house while I was at work. I didn't have to leave the key in the bike.

Maybe! I didn't think of that. Makes a lot of sense though since I used BMW finance.

Since I paid cash and only got the single real key and the plastic one - I don't believe that's the case, and the dealer has needed my key when doing the 600 mile service.
It appears BMW is only delivering the bikes with the two keys..

One real, and One plastic. They have to save money on the second key to send you the nice owner gift box ! You gotta love bean-counter MBA's!

Come on, people. You only paid $15,000.00 for your bike. Do you really expect to get a metal spare key!? The next thing you know, someone will be wining about the center stand not being standard equipment!
....oh wait...that would be me....

Just like every other R12R owner said: Two keys (one metal, one platic).
Don, re the owner's kit: Don't call yet, it takes 8-10 weeks.

See your dealer - it's probably not cheap, and it just might be priceless to you someday.

As stated before, one metal key, one plastic key standard.
I've already paid the fifty bucks for a second metal key....just in case.
What's in the owner gift box?
Or should I just wait for the surprise...?

Here in SA we get the same - one proper key plus a little wallet key and the bike comes standard with ABS, centre stand & heated grips.

Two proper metal keys and one plastic emergency key. Seems like enough.
