It wasn't a Battery Problem HELP!

Post by hep303 »

I posted a few days ago regarding what I thought was a battery problem. The original battery in the bike seemed weak. I put a new gel battery in 3 weeks ago and I was unable to start my bike tho other day. It sounded like there was not enough juice to turn the bike over. I fully charged the battery and tried again and it sounded the same. A low, slow vra vra sound and no spark. After 3 or 4 tries some smoke started coming out near the left foot peg. What the hell is this? The light and horn work fine. Is it a bad starter? This is a 2004 R1150R with 2400 miles.

Always check the basics first.

Could be a bad connection to the starter.
Remove the starter motor cover and check that the live feed to the starter is clean, free from corrosion and making good contact.

If the connection is suspect disconnect the battery before working on the starter.
