Hannigan Fairing

Post by celticus »

This weekend I was at the RA rally in Asheville NC and happened upon this!
Image
It looked pretty nice and only weights 15 lbs.
They have a version of the one shown with a smaller windshield and no lowers which sounded good to me.
Still I am not comitted.

Not my cup to tea. Looks way too big for the scale of the bike. If I had wanted a bike with a fairing that big I would have bought an RT. But that's just my opinion.

I know what you mean but it is still not nearly as big and bulky as an RT.

Mark,

I realize sometimes things look better in person than in a photo. But to my eye, not only is this faring proportionally oversize, its roundness doesn't blend with the angularity of the tank at all. For what it's worth, I am solidly with fly/Mark on this one.

I was there and looked at the fairing.. (and took some photos)..

It begs the question "why"? It isn't particularly well finished inside. It doesn't provide any additional storage space. They have to relocate the headlight, instruments to mount it. It appeared to not serve as well as something from BMW - and was almost as odd looking (in a different way) as the R1200ST.

The windshield looks hideous (IMHO), and the fairing design probably looked good compared to a Luftmeister 30 years ago - but it hasn't aged gracefully.

Seeing it - it looks just as odd and old fashioned in the plastic as it does in photos. It convinced me that it's something I'll never consider.

Your fairing may vary - but this ones a non-starter as far as I'm concerned.

Any thought I ever had about it was banished by those photos. Freakishly large and bulbous. It kind of overpowers the bike.

Instead of warding off bad weather, with that, you could ward off bullets.

I can just hear the comments at Marcus Dairy in CT on Sundays with that thing..."hey that's a nice fairing you are riding there sir...you should get a motorcycle to go with that...oh wait..there is a motorcycle there...sorry my mistake!"

Yeah it looks big and is probably unwieldy in the wind!

I would have just gotten an RT if I was into this kind of thing I see no sense in puting something like that on the R1200R but of course everybody is free to do as he likes but don't expect many compliments on how cool your bike looks after fitting this  .

I've been watching this thread and other similar threads and I must agree with Skippy.

I've come off a 2000 R1100RT which was a spectacular bike. I was looking for the naked configuration which is what steered me to an R1150R and then the release of the R1200R....well we all know how that goes.

BMW makes a bike just about for every riding type and comfort level. Especially now-a-days with the 800, K12R and the existing lineup of RTs, LTs and S'.

Different strokes for different folks.
No matter how you like your two wheels served up - enjoy and ride safe.
