garage door opener hard wired;anyone done this?
Has anyone done a hard wired garge door opener on a R bike before? I would really like to do this, but have no idea where to get the device or how to go about the installation.

somewhere (maybe on ibmwr or advrider) is a nice write up and pictures.
I stuck mine under the gas tank where the abs unit would go.
The trick is to find a garage door opener that is 12v, or to take a pot (variable resistor) and dial the incoming voltage down to match the opener.
Open up the remote, and solder the button shut so it is always on.
Connect the positive wire to a switch power source, connect the ground to the wire coming from the turnsignal cancel button (I cannot remember which wire it is)
Every time you push down the turn signal cancel switch, the opener works.
This is very similiar to an autoswitch connection. I also have the autoswitch installed, and there is no compatibility issue.

Garage Door Opener
I have a garage door opener that you hardwire into your bike and can trigger it by hitting your brights.
We ordered it on Ebay. I can't remember the manufacturer. There is one on there now. It's not the one I have but probably similar.

It's great, I just blip my brights and the door opens or closes. It's doesn't work as perfectly on the R as it did on my old bike. On my other bike there was a seperate wire for the brights. The R doesn't so this one triggers the garage when I turn on the bike because the lights turn on.
It's no biggie to me, it's cool to drive off and flick my brights to close the garage and have no seperate remote mounted.

I picked up a pre-owned unit off Ebay. The owner had never even used it but opened the box so hence pre-owned. The unit works exactly as advertised in the previous post. Simply wire it into the high beam wire and ground from the headlight. Takes like five minutes with the provided connector. Wire up the transponder unit to the back of the garage door opener. Hit your high beams twice and away you go! Not to steal from the previous post but now you do not have to worry about remotes getting wet. Money well spent.
