Bike Stands?

Post by Hawkman »

Just wondering what stands people use or would recommend of working on the "R"? I would buy just ol' one, but the single swing arm makes me think that a generic one will be unstable with the BMW. Does this even make a difference or am I being a dope? Thanks!

Do you have a centerstand? My rock didn't come with one and adding one made life easier.

when I last took my wheels off i strapped the center stand to the exhaust crossover with a ratchet strap just in case it tried to roll off.

Then with the bags off and some gas in the tank i can get the rear wheel off and the bike will sit on the front wheel. I put a jackstand with some leather on top under the lower shock mount in the back for some reassurance.

For the front I took the calipers and wheel off put the axle back in and rest it on 2 jackstand under the fork legs with some rubber for the paint. I'm thinking of buying a pitbull front stand though....

I've seen them suspended with straps from the ceiling or with some sort of metal contraption at the shop though... how am i going to do this? I rent and don't want to make any holes in the ceiling. thinking an engine hoist might do the trick but it would be overkill :)
