R1150R/Rockster Cat elemination

Post by Beaze »

I know that you can remove the cat, cut it open and remove the catalyst from it. I know how to weld but don't have a welder handy, soooo....Has anyone out there been able to break up the catalyst without cutting? If the actualy catalyst is made of clay, then I was thinking of just breaking it up and dumping it out. Of course, if it's made of metal then I'd have to do the "ectomy" process. Just another reason to buy a welder, why do women always need rational justification to buy cool stuff? :D

The CAT element in BMW's is aluminium foil and won't just break up like the ceramic ones.

When I did the one in my RT-P I didn't have access to a welder either... but my local muffler shop happily cut out the CAT and welded the box back up and only charged me $10 :)

The CAT in your 1150 is in a different place though. Go to the active topic in this board called "calalytic converter removal" on the 2nd page Beemeridian has kindly posted some pics of his 1150 CAT-ectomy to help you local it.

Hope this is helpful

Hi,
You can remove complete cat and replace it with accessory 3-pipe.
I've got this solution in my Rocs and it works perfect.
