Engine paint

Post by phishbone2501 »

Hi All.
well after an awful winter here I have found the engine paint seems to be flakey.
Does anyone know which is the best engine paint to use?
cheers.

Last winters salted roads caused flakeing on my rocker covers, I wire brushed them and applied a few coats of Hammerite smooth silver. Colour match is good and much cheaper than replacing parts. Next place to get this treatment will be the front case of the engine as it is starting to flake. Ideally I shouldn't use my bike to commute in the winter, I work anti social hours and dont always have time to wash and clean it.

Here are some paints others have used to match the silver engine color:
Krylon Dull Aluminum #1403 Special Purpose Metallics
Krylon Matte #1311 Protective finish Coating
Dupli-Color Import Auto Artic Silver p/n 8800910
Dupli-Color scratch fix 2-in-1 HA00971 Satin Silver Metallic

and the most recommmended paint is
Dupli-Color DSGM 340 Metallic Silver.

These are not suitable for use on areas that get hot!

Good luck. Hope it turns out looking good!
