How to get a mile or so out of an empty tank.

Find a safe place off the road when your tank empties.

Lower the bike down onto the right cylinder head, GENTLY.

once there - pull the rear wheel up a bit (rotate bike around the cylinder head) so that the bike passes 90 degrees of lean.

slowly lift bike back to vertical, remount and press starter. :)

It takes seconds and saves pushing a heavy bike a mile to the next petrol station. ;)

OH - you're asking why it works?? The fuel pump only draws from the right side of the tank - there's a litre or so capacity in the non-accessed left side - leaning the bike over like this (when stationary) allows some of that fuel to slop over the ridge down the middle and thus it can be accessed by the fuel pump.

I was hoping I'd never have to try - but lost track of when I'd gone onto reserve, hence needing to try it!!

Need to run the bike to empty again sometime to measure the reserve - I THINK I've got around 45 miles in there.
