is an 04's tail light just a standard 1157 bulb?

Post by vegas_rider »

hey guys,

question on my 04 stock r1150r, is the taillight bulb just a standard 1157? i have a 12V 1157R LED bulb by jamstraight lying around, as they came sold in packs of 2 and one was in my bonneville that i sold. the bulb's still new, and i'd like to put it to use as i recall it gave substantial brightness improvements over a regular bulb on the bonneville.

if i change the bulb, will it jack anything up with the onboard computer at all or anything else for that matter?

i want to get this installed, and also install a H4 superbright by PIAA. that was the setup i had on my bonneville and it really helped me stick out. eventually wanna move up to the flashing brake LED system, but right now too poor for that lol.

thanks guys!

I plan on buying an LED setup for my Rockster taillight soon. Changed the headlights for a PIAA superplasm white 2 years ago, no problem with the voltage or anything, but headlights still weak. I made a big difference in lighting when I added the PIAA 1100X driving lights, really light up the road. I also added the "run-n-lites" to the turn signals, and the blinky module, all in all, my voltage has been good. I have a plain old Rockster, no ABS, or canbus, or excess computer things.

just finished throwing in the LED 12V light into the rear taillight, big difference in brightness, fits well, and seems to be working flawlessly...same voltage so shoudln't jack anything up with the electronics.

newb spinoff here, what's the deal with the CANbus?? i don't have ABS, is that only on abs models? still familiarizing with the bike...

i'm interested in the hyperlites setup, does anyone know of the best source to get them at price wise? and does anyone have a link to a good step by step install for those guys?

tentatively, my lighting setup will be the LED in the back, H4 piaa super white in the headlight, and the hyper lights...once that's all said and done, should i need to do anything to get more power/voltage out of the battery, or will stock setup run that all well?

so i was messing around online looking at other lighting options hyperlites etc...and came across the "rotating LED taillight"

these pulsate too when the brakes are applied, and are a much cheaper and easier install than the hyperlites. of course, i'm sure not as effective because it would cause you to still only have the taillight, vs the hyperlites in addition to the taillights, but I was wondering if anyone has actually used one of these???

i'm trying to video online to see how the look as i'm having trouble picturing it in my head...inputs appreciated!

You probably found this already, but just in case....
http://hyperlites.com/
I have them on mine and get comments on how noticible they are. They were on the bike when I bought it.
I could be wrong...but I don't think any year R1150R has the CANbus system.

By the way....nice avitar!! :D

If anyone's interested, I'm selling a tail-light bulb on the buy/sell forum. It came out of my single spark non-ABS 2003 Roadster. Hardly used.

what website did all you guys get your hyperlites from?

hyperlites.com?

OR

motorcyclelighting.com?

motorcycle lighting supposedly has prebuilt kits for the BMW bikes which makes it easier than the universal ones that the actual hyperlites website sells?? can anyone comment on this?

thanks in advance!
