I want to swap bars to the F800STs as others have done. However, I have heated grips and am looking for information and tips about removing them, especially the left side. I have done numerous searches on the topic and have come up empty. I even bought a "Service Manual" CD to no avail.
Are there any instructions anywhere to help. I mostly want to avoid a "gotcha" moment that would call for replacing one or both of the grips. Any assistance would be appreciated.

Re: Help on Removing/Installing Heated Grips
I would also like to find some documentation on heated grip wiring and handle bar dependencies.
I want to swap bars to move my hand position back a bit and up a bit.
I think these bars will do the trick:
http://www.spieglerusa.com/cfm/Handleba ... erbikeHigh
Now to find out if the bars are compatible with heated grips.
Thanks in advance for any info,
David in Santa Cruz, CA

Re: Help on Removing/Installing Heated Grips
As far as i know the left grip doesn't fit straight on the bar, it's the same inside diameter as the throttle side and is on a tube which slides over the handlebar and is screwed on so should be just a case of undoing it and sliding it off and onto the other bars. At least that's what it was like on my 1150GS (from what i can remember) so you should'nt need to try and unstick it and risk damaging the grip.

Re: Help on Removing/Installing Heated Grips
Nigel,
Thanks for the input. That eases my mind as to what to look for. It sounds like a piece of cake. I shouldn't have to drill any holes since the F800ST's bars also accommodate heated grips.

Re: Help on Removing/Installing Heated Grips
What are the differences between the F800GS bars and the R1200R bars? Even with barbacks, I'd like to be more upright. Is this swap helpful in that regard?

Peter, This swap is in the opposite direction of your goal. The F800ST bars are lower and narrower than the R12R bars. I'm not sure about the F800GS bars.
