I just sold my 1200GS and am considering an R1150R. I use it for one solo trip each year (about 5500mls in 9 days) and two up to rallies with about 350 mile days.
Love the look of the Rockster but am wondering which would be more suitable for my needs.
Would apprciate any input from anyone using either bike for similar activities.
Thanks
Steve

Re: R1150R Roadster v Rockster
You can search here for comprehensive list of differences between the R1150R Roadster and R1150R Rockster variants.
Having ridden week-long journeys on each, I would highlight these factors:
ergonomics: different handlebars and OE seats
6th gear on the Rockster is close ratio like R1150GS Adventure; 6th on Roadster is "overdrive"
headlight on Rockster is same as 11150GS, weak compared to Roadster
wide variety of windshields for Roadster; very few for Rockster (but best to ride it naked anyway)
Otherwise they're the same bikes, accept same aftermarket seats (important for road trips), same BMW cases, accept mostly same gizmos & farkles, same strengths and weaknesses (some shared with the entire R1150** clan)

Re: R1150R v Rockster
With a few mods (few hundred bucks) in a windshield, top case and handlebar risers, you can set the Rockster up for touring.
Although side by side the bikes are almost identical, for whatever reason the Rockster doesnt seem to maintain the same resale value.
I myself prefer the edgier look of the Rockster vs. the more subdued tame version in the Roadster.
Guess it comes down to looks and which you prefer...oh yea....and your age LOL
Here's a few pics of mine set up and ready for the open road...
