Hi Guys,
Picked up a 2007 R1200R with only 2200 miles in September. It had a slow speed front end accident so I got it for less than half price. It had a clean title and appeared to only need an upper fork tube and front fender. Turned out that both forks were tweaked as well as the a-arm and the unbelievably the front frame. Hard to imagine when the accident was at a stop sign at less than 10mph! This is what it looked like after the accident:
I sent the parts off to The Frame Man in Sacramento, CA and after sending the frame back a second time (he only straightened it in one plane the first time - found that out after reassembling everything -UGGHH!) For $300 I got it all straightened and put it back together with a new fender and added a Givi A750 fairing to the front. Need to put some time on it to see if it is a keeper but it looks nice IMHO. Also added Barkbuster Storm handguards and a Throttlemeister. Got some used bags and will use the tank bag from my 1100GS for now. Have plans to install a Dobeck (Techlusion) fuel controller and possibly a full Z-Technik exhaust (might as well try them since I am a dealer for both ) Here is what it looks like now:
The Givi fairing looks particularly nice with the pin stripes. Let us know how it behaves in the wind. Unless there is some flaw in the reconstrction, I'm betting this bike will be a keeper.

Rode it for half an hour yesterday and everything seems as it should so not anticipating any problems. Hard to tell on a short ride how the shield is but up to 80mph there was not much in the way of turbulence. Seemed like my helmet was in clean air which is how I like it. I wear earplugs so unless it is really noisy it should be OK. The hand guards only seem to come in black or chrome as far as I can tell.

Those look like Storm handgaurds...if so...how did you get the Storm name tag off the front of them (if they had it) ???
BTW....Nice bike...great deal...

Yes, as mentioned in the original post, they are Storm handguards. The Storm sticker just peels right off easily.
I hate to be a copy cat but that little fairing looks awesome! I might have an MRA Vario ( I like it ) for sale come spring time. That really adds to the racey roadster look on your R12. good job on the rebuild
Speed cures all handling problems.
2009 R-12R awesome

Thanks Guys! I really like the looks of the Givi also. Just got back from a 450 mile shake down ride and the fairing is maybe a little louder than I'd like. Of course I have not tried the bike without a shield yet or with a taller one. I have a 16" and a 22" Cee Baileys I can try and also a Z-Technik so I'll have to compare those. Might use the Givi as a summer shield and one of the taller ones in the colder weather. The brake fluid is not low, must be an optical illusion on the pics.
I did have a little pulsating on the front brakes so I need to check the front wheel. I thought it had escaped unscathed in the accident but I need to check it with a dial gauge. May be slightly tweaked and will have to be sent out to be straightened. Loved the bike overall. The stock seat is pretty bad but I knew that was the case. Probably get a Russell made this winter. Looking forward to trying the Dobeck Performance fuel controller as I think it will help the low speed jerkyness of the FI and improve the throttle response somewhat. Has so much more steam than my 2005GS. Unreal how it can pull 6th gear all the way down to 3000 rpms, really flexible motor. The guy I was riding with has a Triumph Tiger and he was shocked how quickly the R12R accelerated. Every bit as quick as his Tiger. Definitely a keeper!

Don't forget about the "booster plug". I have it and it's very effective at smoothing out the throttle (http://www.boosterplug.com). Glad to see an R12R rescued so to speak.
I finally got got an RT!

Considering I am a distributor for Dobeck Performance, I think I'll stick with that . Lots of adjustment on the Dobeck unit compared with none on the Booster Plug....

I just ordered the Storm Barkbusters. I hope they will block the wind a bit in cooler weather riding. Even with the heated grips and warm gloves, my fingers get cold below 33 degrees.
The R1200R is BMW's best kept secret. It is an all around performer. I love mine.
Thanks for the welcome Bill. I was in 31-33 degree temps Sunday morning for a couple hours with heated grips and the Storm handguards with my light weight Held waterproof gloves and my hands were OK. With heavier gloves you'll be fine below freezing.

Nice looking bike. Glad to see you are back on the road. Not riding is tuff. I like the Givi Fairing. I want something to hold the wind back and now have a sport shield. It works good. Below is a posting of another Givi Fairing where the mounts were modified....
