ground clearance question

Post by samh »

Hey, I think this might be my first post.... I have a G650GS which I've put about 13.5k on in the last year. I just got back from the NYC motorcycle show, and I really liked the R1200R that they had there. I would probably want a lowered bike (I'm 5'10" with a 28" inseam, and I also really like the Russel day long saddle which adds width and a bit of height.)

My question is about ground clearance: At work I park on the sidewalk, and have to jump a curb to do so. On my G I usually start from a few feet back, give it some gas, and jump up over the curb. Is this something that I could do on a lowered R?

I guess the other alternative is a 1200GS low, but I really like the R better, and it is a bit lower.

Thanks
SH

SH - how high is the curb? I lowered my '07, and still have at least 6" clearance between ground and the bottom of my skid plate (off a GS..)

I dunno, maybe 6-8" Any idea what the diff. in clearance between a lowered GS and a lowered R is?

Nope.

How fast are you jumping this curb? I'd be a bit concerned about the wheels..

First gear, just enough gas to get over the darn thing. The G handles it just fine. It's probably nothing to worry about.
