Key will lock system cases to mounts?

Post by Grey Thumper »

Just wanted to confirm something about the cases:

The upper (thick) handle operates the latch that connects the cases to the mounts (it's also used to carry the cases when off the bike).

The lower (flat) handle operates the latch that connects the lids to the cases.

The key prevents the flat handle from being raised, locking the lids.

Does it also lock the cases to the mounts?

They can't hit you if you're not there.

err - in that the key will prevent the outer (thick) handle opening - yes.

but if you're thinking that there's an extra bolt that the key actuates and which interfaces with the mounts - no - that doesn't exist.

I have had an attempted theft(in Mexico locked lot) where they tried to lift the plastic handle hard enough that I had to take pliers and straighten the red metal plate some. Make certain that you do the safety pin fix(search here) , keeping your sidecases secure to the sidecase frames.See ebay damaged cases for sale for proof that sidecases fall off, even though not supposed to! Like most luggage a thief can eventually get in there.

Good to know, thanks. I just wanted the locks to be secure enough so I can leave the bike while stopping for a meal, for instance. No piece of luggage (especially one with plastic latches) is impregnable, and if I'm stopping for the night, I'll bring the cases in.

it makes sense to park where you can see the bike too.

having said that - even when I used soft luggage a lot, I've never had an issue. :)
