Standard Seat Range

Hi all,

Can anyone confirm the range of seats available from BMW for the R12R?

I took a 2012 R1200R for a ride today but before IO even sat on it I was impressed by the look of the seat that was on it. My previous 2007 model had a nice seat but it was made from a textured (rough) finish material and was OK but not "nice" looking.
This new one which the dealer said was the new "standard" seat looked much nicer, more like a leather finish with nice stitching.

The one I had before looked like the one in the catalog that they call the "Sports Seat".
The new one looks like the "Comfort Seat".

The height was Ok but an extra 30 mm would not go astray given I'm 6'1" tall with longish legs.

So my question is - is this seat that is standard now the "Comfort Seat" and therefore I can go for the "High Comfort Seat" and get that same new look with a bit more height.

One last point though - my dealer says I need to pay an additional $440 to get it as it's and accessory. I thought if I order it with the bike I get it included.

I think new R's comes with the low comfort seat. If your dealer doesn't just swap it for a high at no cost to you I would consider going to another dealer because that's just petty of him.

BMW make six different seats for the R. At first there were four, all of the same style. High,(830mm) medium,(800mm) low,(770mm) and extra low (770mm) The extra low is the same height as the regular low seat, but positions the rider an inch forward. This last one was normally included with the low suspension option. To make it extra confusing, sometimes they originally called these seats comfort seats, but now they call the same ones either bench seats or sports seats.
And now there are two more seats, the comfort seats, they are wider and are more comfortable with a scooped appearance, and available in low (800mm) and high (830mm) versions. The comfort seats were introduced on the touring model of the R, but now they are available on all R2100Rs. It's great to have such a selection, but they couldn't have made the choice more confusing if they tried.

The dealer put a high comfort seat on my 1200 as part of the purchase. No extra charge. But, still very uncomortable after 30 minutes of riding. So, I had Rick Mayer customize it and covered in leather. I'm 6'2". Having the high comfort seat customized allowed seat to remain tall for me while giving me the comfort to ride 2-3 hours with no "monkey butt"

The seat that came with my 2012 R1200R Classic is the Low Comfort Seat. Because there were no high seats in stock, they charged me additional for the high comfort seat but I got both to try. I tried the High Comfort Seat which looks the same but is taller. I found the Low Comfort Seat to be more comfortable for me as its a bit more scooped out so I am keeping it and have returned the high comfort seat. I think most new R1200Rs come with the Low Comfort Seat as standard; although I have seen some newer R1200Rs, maybe '10 or '11 non-classic models, with the sport seat. One way to tell the diffference by looking and in pictures is that the sport seat has a grab strap; the comfort seats look more scooped out. I believe BMW does offer 6 different seats:

High and Low Comfort - scooped out with no grab strap - 32.7" Part #s 52537719484 (High) and 31.5" 52537719485 (Low)

The low comfort seat is the most comfortable motorcycle seat I have ever owned. That's not to say it's perfect or like a barcalounger, just a good motorcycle seat. I've actually never owned a motorcycle seat that I could call "all day" comfortable. Must be my fat arse.
