To muffle or not to muffle?

Have been sorting out my recently purchased R.

Want to install full size system cases and would like to get rid of the stock muffler (replace with 8” exhaust tip) but don’t want a lot more exhaust noise. I have read several posts on the topic (thank you) and decided I needed to hear the difference myself.

Made 2 video/sound recordings of bike running with and without the stock muffler.

Conclusion:
Sound has changed into a deeper growl and I estimate is about 20-25% louder.

I kinda like the deeper growl and think I can live with the plus 20-25%. And as others have stated, I also really like that I can see more of the rear wheel and am shedding the weight of the muffler. It’s heavy!

Congrats Endgame on your bike. Is practically new and looks great. I like what you did with the Sargent seat and the cruise control. The windshield is too big for my liking. Takes all the beautiful naked looks away from the bike. But that muffler thing is not alowed in Europe. The bike comes with type approval and that means you can't ride it without a muffler, because then it is not according to the approved specs. So what we do is buy an aftermarket muffler with a removable DB-killer. I have an Akrapovic muffler and 90% of the rides are without the DB-killer, which in fact makes it louder and with a much deeper growl than without a muffler at all .

I see you changed the front fender as well. I prefer the original big fender, but that's personal. But again, congrats on your purchase, Have fun and enjoy the rides.

Fender is from a 2003 K1200RS. Bolts right on, no mods needed. Bought it on eBay and had it painted.

HAHA the beak! Iv'e grown accustomed to it and like it, because its instantly recognizable as bmw. I wonder, Can it be swapped to a 1200R? just curious.

I have always wondered what those bolt holes off the front edge of the lower forks are for - to secure a K1200 fender?? Always thought they were for auxiliary lights...

What is that oil filler hole cap? Stock? Looks like it keeps the area around the oil filler hole nice and clean - much better than my '02 R's stock cap

I have a very similar Sargent seat - very comfy for long rides.

Enjoy the bike - 2400 miles is basically new!

Cap is ok and looks good. Comes with a new O-ring and fits snug.... so snug in fact it wants to turn the plastic receiver inside the cover when tightening or loosening.

That plastic OEM oil filler cap assembly is a disgrace!

I have the Akrapovic titanium can and Sargent saddle on my 2002 R1150R as well. I recommend both. The Akra is louder than stock, but not offensive, and sounds much deeper. The Sargent is all day comfortable, and unlike most customs, is waterproof.

After 2 weeks of running cat out to a turndown, I found a screaming deal on CL.

I went to check out a couple of Vanson jackets that an unknown to me BMW mechanic was selling today. The jackets did not fit, but this nice, used, but in good nick TBR exhaust was sitting in the pile of for sale gear.

$20 took it home, and a quick trip to Lowes for some M8 bolts, and a u-bolt (for the 2 3/8 metal bar), a trip to the auto parts store for a 1 3/4" x 4" pipe, and Woot!

Nice loud, happy lightweight exhaust.

of course then I noticed some oil coming out of my filler cap...... next post.

Received my stainless 8” polished tip from Rod-Shop. Nice tight fit. Secured it with 2 stainless pop-rivets.
