now I hear everything,,,a metal oil filter, something like a K&N filter, you removed it,,wash it and put it back!

I've been warned off of this and similar products by a number of knowlegeable mechanics and engineers. The root of the problem is that the claims exceed performance by a considerable margin. Simply put, the filter doesn't work as advertised. The advice I got was to stick with the OEM filter.

That reminds me of the toilet paper filters that were all the rage back in the '60s. Remember those? I had a friend in grad school who put one of those things on a new Mercedes and didn't change the oil or t-paper for thousands of miles. Also neglected to check the oil level. Sure enough, the engine fried and the warranty was void.

Yes, I had a girlfriend back then that insisted I drive her dad's 65 Mustang convertable He had a toilet paper filter in it and no amout of discussion could I persuade her that it was the wrong way to go. So I found other ways to take my mind off it.

AC DELCO PF-53 CAN BE USED WITH NO PROBLEMS, PER A MODERATOR.

I tried to put the BMW oil filter wrench on AC DELCO PF-53 at a local auto parts store. It was too small(the filter). So I am going for the K&N, it has a nut tack welded to the bottom of the filter for install.
