I have a Shoei RF-900 helmet, and these are apparently infamous for fogging up. I like the helmet, but it does fog up very easily.
I have tried the pinlock system, and it really works.

The other day it was 33.4 degrees F when I left the house for my morning commute. It was cloudy and damp. I closed all the vents on my helmet. The visor did not fog, even when I tried heavy breathing.
The downside is that there is a slightly dusty look to the visor, and you can get double vision right at the edge of the insert. This may affect your view of the instrument panel guages.
Overall, though, the pinlock system does an excellent job of preventing fogging. Note that you have to buy both a visor that accepts the pinlock system, and also the insert.
I leave the insert in all the time because it is really easy to change visors with the Shoei helmet.

Pinlock Rocks!
Use it with the Nolan 102 and it is fantastic! I could fog sunglasses in the Sahara with no helmet, but the Pinlock keeps my visor crystal clear down into the 20's ( F ). Swear by it.

I have Shoei XR-1000 with Pinlock.
Pinlock is the next best thing after sliced bread - but it is not 100% fog free. I use Foggy mask for 100% result. I know I can go with my vents fully opened - but in town you get stuck very quickly and it starts misting up a bit.
As someone pointed out here - changing visor is a very easy job on Shoei - so I have orange insert with one visor for summer - no need for sunglasses and another visor with clear insert for winter. Not to mention that dark visors are illegal in UK, but inserts are not.
