...is it me, or has anyone else gone through a similar period of disappoinment with their R1150R - and overcome it? Don't worry, I've been through this with both my BMWs. I found the standard bike pretty unbearable after a while too. On the whole they're great bikes, but need a bit of tweeking to g...

I've just got an airhawk on my 1200GS. I got it coz my sargent seat was giving me problems  The one on my old R was lovely though if you're thinking about going down that route. It's really weird to get used to as it's literally like sitting on a cushion of air. I only just tried it today tho...

Not sure if it's the same smell, but mine sometimes had a certain smell about it when hot. I can't put my finger on what it smells like, but it's not particularly unpleasant, in fact by association I quite liked it! Maybe it's just the smell of dust burning off the cylinders or something. The 1200 s...

Oh yes, I've been on there since I started thinking about it. I'm now officially a full blown tosser  I do know what you mean about the 1150 engine, they have something special about them. The 1200GS's are 20kg's less than the 1150R. It's amazing to think they knocked nearly 50kg's off the old ...

Well folks, today I picked up my new bike :D It's horrible out there at the moment so I won't take pics just yet. Here's one I stole from the dealers website for now: http://www.jlvw.co.uk/Images/forweb/r1200gs.jpg It's superb, in a word. For such a big bike it's amazing how well balanced it is. I'v...

Well folks, I'm afraid I'll be out of here soon  I'm off to put a deposit down this afternoon :D I'm getting a red 2005 (55 plate) R1200GS with 5300 miles on the clock, just enough to have the 6k service before I get it!. Funnily enough, it's almost exactly the same age and mileage as my Roadst...

1200GS - I'm tempted
Well, it's only been a year since I bought my roadster, but I'm thinking about getting a GS. It was the bike that brought me into the BMW dealership in the first place, and ever since I keep thinking about it. I love the R, don't get me wrong, I think it's a great bike, but I just fancy the 1200 mot...

Nice pics! I've got an Oxford humpback tank bag, which is magnetic. Can't fault the quality, it's expandable and it doubles up as a backpack, leaving just a map pocket on the tank. I love my tank bag, I've been attached to it since the day I bought it 3 years ago, but now I'm faced with possibly nee...

I'm sure mines got the short gear, 4000rpm at around 70mph. Gotta be honest, I'm not a huge fan of it. anything above 80 (on my own private road, officer  ), and i find myself thinking I've got another gear to go. At 70 it's fine, so I guess it's a good thing to slow me down a bit! I take it t...

I heard the suspect fuel came from Essex, but has been distributed all over the place. My local tesco had some apparently, which is in Byfleet, Surrey. Personally I tend to use super unleaded, or V-power, generally the best that is available at the time, and rarely use supermarkets. I do notice a sl...

They say 5 years for most helmets, but there's some that are made differently which are supposed to only be good for 2 years. They're usually the more expensive ones too. I generally replace my helmets every 2 years anyway, because they start getting loose and smelly  , and as yjleesvrr says, t...

Right then, I've got them in now. They worked out at roughly £2 each, so plus postage, probably an even £5 for a pair if anyone's interested? I've got 3 different sizes. large, medium and small. The medium ones seem to be ideal, as they're thick, but not so thick they're overly hard to open. T...
