I too looked for a vest to wear over my riding jacket, as wimped out when I bought it and got gray, not the day glow yellow, oh well, next will be. During day time, I dont worry too much, but other times I want to be more noticable. Vest was an idea, but they cover all of my pockets and take up spac...

How many miles do you have on your bike? My R did use less and less oil as time went by and the miles increased. It also used less oil when the RPM's were kept up, lugging the engine was not good. When I first got it, I was shifting prior to 4K. Told the dealer of the oil use and was told to rev hig...

I ran my gerbings liner off of the acc plug for a while, but it bothered me sticking out as far as it did. Due to having to remove the tank to get to the battery, installed a centech fuse panel and then pigtailed the gernings from it. Much nicer just having the plug end hanging out and left the acc ...

Either put the jump points on your bike, or an adapter to the plug so you can jump the bike from a car. The car should NOT be running though! After suffering a dead battery away from home, I replaced my battery and bought a set of motorcycle jumper cables and keep them in my bag. The are small and l...

How old is your battery? My bike was slow to start when the battery started to crap out on me. Once I got a new battery bike fired right away (of course) . Then started getting longer to crank and start until I got my 18K service and new plugs. Even think about touching the starter button now and th...

Took the GS out tonight for the first time two-up. Almost speechless. The R does great two-up, but it does require a slight change in braking and how you start from a stop, especially if you are on an incline. The GS, well it never really acknowledged that there was a person on the back. Regardless ...

This gives the orientation and placement. What I did was sit on the bike and marked with painters blue tape where my knees would most likely rub the tank and positioned the large pads so they covered that area. Then its a matter of trying to get them even on each side. http://i68.photobucket.com/alb...

Leaving this Saturday for a trip and then back next week. After the 28th, hopefully leaving again for anther short trip. Will have to see. I also need to get...

DJ, you kill me and you are correct, that is a Breva 750. I tried to line up the shot so you could see all of the tank emblems, but the sun and clouds made all of the shots kinda hazy. Once the R is adopted out, the Breva may be the next to go. We are looking for a 650GS to replace it with or someth...

WOW!

Picked up the GS today. Holy power Batman! Of course it was raining (first wet day after several in the 90's and 80's and with new tires...)when I picked it up so I took it easy on the way home and avoided any fun roads, but even with that, what a blast to ride. Got the seat in a position I like, no...

I have to say, that thanks to this forum, I feel like I know a number of you and have actually met and become friends with several. The "master" plan is for my wife to eventually sell her Guzzi and get a 650GS. Neither of us are really into the high speed, pushing ourselves and the bikes f...

Their offer basically was what I owe on the R, not what it is worth and selling for in the area. So, after the ride, I am going to scrub the R up to look new again and remove some of parts that can be used on the GS. Then sell the R, and take the profit, hopefully a profit, and buy some bags for the...

I have an 04 with no surge problems. I just had the 18k service done a few weeks ago and as I got closer to it, I thought I could feel some surge at lower speeds in 1st gear. Figured I would put some seafoam in it and see what happens. Came back from service and runs great! Made a believer out of me...

Feel like a traitor to my R but WOW and Shazaam!

Well, some time ago, at an open house, I test rode a 12GS. That was a mistake. Have been looking half heartedly at them ever since. So after much contemplation, soul searching, and deep thought, I acted on impulse yesterday while my R was in for a service and bought a GS. I dont get to pick up the G...

Carol, We just have an old Kodak easyshare and like it a lot. It is several years old and does a great job. If something were to happen to it, I would not hesitate to get another one, newer and better of course. One thing I did before buying was to literally test all the ones in the price range I wa...

I had one stuck on the triple tree too, just below the handlebars. Thing read accurately in the garage, but as soon as I got on the road and the sun started hitting it, it always read way warm. Even on very cold yet sunny days, it would read much warmer than I knew it to be. I took the thing off sin...

Extended Warranties

Was wondering if anyone has purchased an extended warranty for their R, not from the dealer at the time of purchase. Any problems with dealers taking them and any problem getting the third party company to pay for the repair?

Greg, I have had my R for 2 years and 18K miles now and everything you mentioned is normal to me and from other posts, normal to others too. My transmission was clunky, but is getting smoother and smoother, both in shifts and how high is likes to rev. As for slow speed turns in parking lots, I think...

The motor course for my department is 3 weeks long. I lasted the first week before a back injury (previous) caused me to drop out. Watch the tape and you can hear his engine reving all the time. The trick that I picked up at the course was it is all about the head and eyes, as we all know, and about...

The guy selling the lids, and having them returned to him has figured out that there are three lids, so it looks like everything will work out, wont have my large lids for a trip I am taking, but oh well. The triangle bumpers on the large lids come on the lids according to my local dealer. FYI Train...
