Re: Crash Bars or Cylinder Guards?

I put the valve cover guards on a while back and after a couple of minor tip-overs they're the only part of the bike that shows any damage. Well worth it as far as I'm concerned.

Re: R1100R vs R1150R vs R1150Rockster

Standard boilerplate: other people here have forgotten more than I will ever know about oilheads, but as far as I know the only two models of those on your list with servo brakes are the '02 R1150R and the '04 Rockster. I don't suggest avoiding them- but just be aware that they're more complex than ...

Re: R1100R vs R1150R vs R1150Rockster

John, I'll chuck my two cents in as a Rockster rider. I've had it long enough to mess around with the ergonomics to some extent. I'm 6'2" so I use the tall seat, but I don't see any reason why you wouldn't be able to get the seat height that works for you. As far as I know there are people down...

Re: '04 R1150R ABS Servo

Try not to let it get to you, Chibbert. It's not worth the frustration. Regardless of the source of the original question, I did find that stepping as hard as possible on the rear brake did not result in the servo whine going away. That's with the reportedly new & improved replacement ABS pump c...

Re: 1100/1150/1200 Engine differences?

There's also the very recent upgrade on some of the 2010 R models to the DOHC flat twin. I think they're saying the results are a small efficiency and power bump.

Re: '04 R1150R ABS Servo

My original pump died at about 9K miles and three years old, and when it was replaced I was told it was an updated model with two-stage operation. Granted I don't have any really good way to verify that, but the sound is noticeably different - there's the normal whine when the brakes are used lightl...

BRAKE! LED bulb replacement - a heads up

For the general edification, the BRAKE! LED bulb replacement I installed four years ago bit it within the last week or so. After pulling the brakelight enclosure off and checking it out, I found that an eight-pin chip had actually fallen off the circuit board and was rattling around inside the enclo...

Just to throw in my 2 cents, even though this has kind of moved on to technical subjects - this forum is populated by the most polite, well-mannered, and helpful people I've ever come across on the internet. I'm not a wildly active member but I've repeatedly received good technical advice as well as...

Re: Paint Bubble on LHS Cylinder Head

I had two developing on the LHS valve cover as well, until the bike got knocked over and the valve cover got replaced under insurance. I actually asked my dealer when they were doing an estimate on the damage and he swore up and down that it wasn't normal. I've also got a little paint flaking on the...

Fantastic photos. Wales looks really nice to have a ride through. I'll add that to the list the next time I go to the UK.
Brem, what made it tricky to install? Pirate advertises it as an easy plug n play.
Well, getting the existing rear light assembly off the back is easy, it's the installation of the new part that's more challenging. Basically the hole in the plastic light casing isn...

Re: Several options for adding lights at the back

I've got one of the BRAKE! LED taillight replacements. They're pretty good- when you brake it flashes for 1-1.5 seconds I think, depending on what you choose when you install it. They do seem to do a fine job of getting the attention of people behind me and my girlfriend continues to comment when ri...

Re: Anyone carry a laptop on the R1150R?

I carry a MacBook in my right system case inside a messenger bag on my commute about six months out of the year. The MacBook is almost always in sleep mode while it's traveling, if not powered off entirely. I have basically zero concerns about it - if you pay attention, when you flip open your MacBo...

Re: Clutch repair - ouch!!

Maybe he meant 5-8 hours? $1,100 for 58 hours of labor works out to about $19/hour, which doesn't leave a lot of room for the dealership to get by unless they've taken up 19th-century labor practices.

Re: Oil weeping at the coolers

It was leaking from both. I'm kind of hoping that it's not as big a deal as having to replace them, since it only has 13,500 miles on it and they weren't leaking before the bike was taken apart.
