I've had a BMW touring shield and the large 23 inch Parabellum tour shield on my Roadster. After both, (at 6 feet 3 inches), I was disappointed. I switched to a Scout more than a year ago and it's the best move I've made (especially in combination with Aeroflow's tank wings which keep "dirty&qu...

Photo Hosting

So many of you members on the board are really good at posting photos of your Beaksters at their best. I've seen posts that talk about photo sharing sites (like Smugmug) that let you post pics that can be linked to the board. I guess there are others too? I heard just today that a new photo sharing ...

I'd buy mine again too! I went through several windshields (including a BMW speedster, a BMW touring and a Parabelum "tall.") The Scout is by far my favorite. I love the interchangable windshields (10" for in town and warm weather, 19" for touring or colder weather). I think the ...

I'm 6'3" and 275 (out of the shower). I needed a Wunderlich peg relo kit to reduce the stress on my knees. Not only did it lower the pegs, it also brought them outward about an inch. I also like to sit more upright than the standard position so I got a set of Genmar barbacks. Not necessarily re...

Thanks for the picture! I like the look a lot too. Do the stripes just stop near your seat or do the connect in the middle? Thanks for sharing - Bob

Pinstripes

I'd like to see photos from anyone who has had classic BMW pinstripes applied to their beakster. I'd like to add some stripes for a "classic" look and need to decide on a scheme, especially on the gas tank and oil cooler areas. How 'bout it folks, let's see what you've done. Thanks - Bob

Nothing required where the headers bolt to the manifold. I taped an inch or so where the headers meet the y pipe and where the y pipe meets the can (they coated lightly where taped so the fit wouldn't be too tight). I also taped the O2 sensor bung so they would know not to get coating into the senso...

They coated the headers and a Y pipe inside and out for me. The charge was 190 (and included return shipping - UPS)

I picked up a pair of used 1150 GS headers (interchangable with R headers) on ebay - got 'em for $50 (retaining my originals just in case). These GS headers had long passed blue or gold and were well into brown. I sent them to JetHot Coatings. JetHot stripped the chrome and refinished them in a &quo...

I'm using the tank wings and they're clearly the best upgrade I've done. When I bought my Roadster, the BMW touring shield was mounted. Helmet buffeting was severe, so much so I thought I'd have to change bikes. I traded my touring shield for a sport shield whch didn't help and even rode naked (the ...

Yes Ken, Hepco & Becker does make a larger topcase. I have the 45 liter model mounted on the Hepco & Becker rack as shown in the prior post. It holds my XXL full face Shoei, rain gear, a few tools, hat, glasses, etc - plus my riding jacket! I think it would hold two helmets if it was otherwi...

I have the Hepco Becker rack on my R1150 and have had it mounted for a year or so - I liked it's style (and substance) more than the silver plastic BMW model. I recently purchased a Hepco Becker 45 liter topcase and I think it's great, It locks (esily) onto the rack and secures with a key (two provi...

Phil - I got the small grip puppies (but the others look great too!). I usually ride with gloves but, IMO, in unusual circumstances that I ride without gloves, the OEM handgrips are plain uncomfortable (and leave grooves in my palms/fingers.) I think I'd do this real soon for any BMW I purchased. In...

I'm using Grip Puppies... http://www.casporttouring.com/store/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=Hand-Cont I've had the wrap arounds with velcro closures but didn't care for them. The grip puppies were tough to get on - I turned them inside out, soaped them up with a dish soap mix, tugged an...

Rethy, My seal also went out (at about 4,200 miles). Mine was replaced under warranty without difficulty (2004 Roadster). The dealer told me that, although not frequent, it happens enough to keep a stock of seals on hand. Good luck with the repair...

You might check the clear tank wings, I don't think you'd even notice them from a distance and, if you did, they're not distracting (to me) anyway, especially when you consider the result. Each wing is mounted with 3 strips of 3M automotive velcro. I've had mine on for 4K miles (and remove them regu...

I have two solutions that worked extremely well for me (260lbs, 6'3"). First, I had the BMW touring shield. Buffeting was terrible. I added AeroFlow tank wings and that made a big difference. I found a good bit of "dirty" air was coming up from around the front fender and over the oil...

Queenpdog (or others?) - Any idea how one of the bellypans (link you posted) can be purchased from in the US. This is the nicest looking bellypan (and provides the largest coverage area) of any I've seen for the 1150R. Thanks - Bob
