gear lever adjustment

Hi,just bought a 03 R1150R 5,800 miles,reading the manuals there is no mention of gear lever adjustment

I am having difficulty in getting my boot under the gear lever and also the lever feels to low

Not sure about how to address the too low part, but you can probably solve the difficulty getting your foot under the lever by putting on a lever enlarger/extension so at least you have a bigger target. What I'm talking about is a sleeve made and sold by Ilium Works, among others, that slides over the toe barrel, that makes the toe barrel stick out laterally to a length of about 2 inches. Try the link...they also might have an adjustable lever replacement, but this might do the trick for you at a lower cost.

There are two adjustments for the lever position. If you follow the lever linkage, you'll see where you can reposition the upper lever on the splined shaft. The other way is to remove one end of the link and adjust its length by screwing the socket ends in or out. If you look closely at the socket ends, you'll see a wire clip that's snapped on just below the socket fittings. Swing it out and pull it down (or up) and off to allow popping the socket off the end of the lever. Be sure to replace the wire "lock" when you're done.

I have just bought new boots and i now need to raise the gear lever.I have removed both bottom and top wires,but i still cant see how to adjust the lever i have loosened the lock nut but i cannot figure out how to adjust the lever

I cannot seem to remove the ball end of the lever top or bottom

From memory.Slacken the lock nut and simply unscrew the bottom (or top knuckle) until the link is long enough; tighten the locknut with eveything pointing the correct way, push in the wire clips.

Sorry,I missing something here i have removed the 2 wire clips and slackened the lock nut, but i cannot get any further, nothing else will move neither up or down.
Course it most likely me being thick.

The linkage has a threaded portion in the centre. Pull off the ball joints from the levers and turn one end of the linkage relative to another to lengthen or shorten.
Simples.

Hi, can anybody explain how to disconnect the threaded rod from the (at least one) ball socket in order to increase the lever angle so that my boot can get under it easier? Like the others, I have removed both wire clips and unfastened the locking nut. But how do I get the ball sockets out? I have a R1100R. Thank you!

If the shifter assembly on the R1100R is similar to the R1150R, once you remove both wire clips from the ball sockets, twist the ball assembly in a clockwise motion - they should pop off with a bit of elbow grease. Hope this makes sense.
I recently removed the ball sockets to replace the protective bushings there.

Popp em out with your fingers. Worst case take a screw-driver. If they don't dismantle easily it means they have run dry and need grease.

Yes, they simply pull off after the clips are removed(make sure they are indeed completely removed). Adjustment was easy on mine but you do need to take the ball joints off the mechanism before shortening or lengthening the mechanism. Grease the balls on assembly.

I've been struggling for the last hour or so to remove and refit the gear lever ball joint linkage and came across this page when I had to turn to google for help. - the key is to remove the metal clip altogether. On first inspection the clip appears to be connected to the ball joint itself - it's not. It's simply a metal pin that locates into the ball joint via two tiny holes. Undo the clip and then slide the pin out from the bottom. The ball joint will now be easy to undo or reconnect with your fingers. Once the ball joint is reattached carefully reinsert the pin ensuring it's aligned in both ball joint holes - can be a little tricky. Hope that helps others - I was trying to force it with moles grips and bash it with a hammer before I realized that the clip is a removable pin. Good luck.
