A while back, while in for my 12000 mile service I mentioned to the service manager that there was some corrosion on the front end of my Rockster. The guy said "we see that a lot and it's not covered by the warranty". I asked him to talk to BMW anyway and see what they said. A month goes by and I stop by again to see if he's heard anything from BMW... Nothing. I stop by again maybe 10 days later.Nothing. This time I pick up his biz card and then email him a nice little note reminding him to check with BMW and see what they say about the corrosion. I get back a quick email from him saying "no go" on the warranty coverage. At this point I'm getting a litte peeved, as I really don't believe he's contacted BMW once. So, I ask him for all of his correspondence with BMW. The next email I get from him he say he's going to try "again" with BMW and really push them to cover the repairs under warranty. Then, lo and behold I get another email saying they'll warranty the repairs. I took in the bike yesterday and he made a quick list of the parts that need to be ordered. Now I wait until the parts are in.
Here are some pics of the corrosion:
There's also a spot on the left side. Am I out of line on this? Should I expect a $14000.00 motorcycle to have corrosion issues like this, even after close to 3 years?

I pointed out the corosion on my Roadster which has the same colour forks to my dealer. He said straight away bring it in next week and we will swap the forks under waranty. So your dealer was totaly in the wrong. I don't know why he would do that because they get paid to do the work.
Plain and simple... He was lazy. Until I started to ask for copies of stuff in writing he had done zip, zero, zilch, nada. I don't understand it either.
I had a fork changed on my bike a few weeks after I bought it, at 9 months old. This was done by the dealer.
I then had the other fork and brace swapped at 23 months by another dealer, again under warranty.
My bike is now 33 months and again the forks are showing signs of bubbling.
It gets wet but no salt, so I can only put it down to poor paintwork.
The dealers are aware, as they had no quibbles dealing under warranty.
I now have a complete front end stored away which I picked up on ebay.
If I ever come to sell it, I might make the swap.
Ohh thats ugly. I have the first signs on my ed80 aswell. Mostly on the cross member just little bits not exposed but bubbling. Its only a year old (bought a long time floor model) but I have 35,000k's and its the only sign of poor quality I have noticed. I haven't even checked but I though Warranty was only 12 months. Bugger
Of course I would prefer four wheels, a bike for the daily grind and a sportsbike for weekends !
I haven't see signs of corrosion anywhere else... My warranty expires in about 3 weeks... Now I can take the bike to my local independent shop and not feel like I'm being !@#$% up the !@#$% every time I need something done.
