Re: Pillion footrest lock in up position

OK I finally figured out the problem. For some reason the pillion footrest holding bracket had opened to the point where the base plate with holes to take the ball bearing (pushed by the spring) was no longer flat aginst the bottom holding bracket. When this happens the footrest simply locks. What I...

Pillion footrest lock in up position

I very rarely carry passengers, and now the footrests have frozen in the up position. I have taken them apart, and there is a spring, ball and plate with a couple of holes which hold it in the up or down position. I clean the thing, put it back together with the footrest down - flip it up and it jus...

Replacement Headlight

A friend of mine r1150r was in an accident and needs a replacement rim, glass and reflector. The BMW price is $279.

Is there a cheaper option ? Doesn't seem to be much on ebay right now. I think he wants to retain the original look

Re: HEED crash bars for a R1150r

I will publish pictures of the bike and crash bars when I get a chance. Its still at the dealers. The repair estimate came in at $6500 so I expect the bike going to be written off. Pity cos after 90k miles I have just figured out how to make it run well. The bar right side that took the brunt on the...

Re: HEED crash bars for a R1150r

Thanks for the suggestions. I had the BMW plastic covers on and they are OK for a tip over but both sides were destroyed when I fell off last year. When the bike went down last week and the crash bars were bent and the head cover on the right side had quite a bit ground out of it. The important thin...

HEED crash bars for a R1150r

Had an accident on Friday that messed up my crash bars (SW Motech). I had to deliberately put the bike down to avoid crashing into a truck with a plow on the front that was on the wrong side of the road cleaning up rocks after last weeks rain. I was looking for an alternative to the SW Motech since ...

Fitting a full sized left bag on R1150r

I have been considering fitting a full sized left side bag for some time. An off last weekend which destroyed my current cut away bag created an incentive. I purchased the muffler lowering kit from Happy Trail. I was very happy with it didn't really need any fettling. The only problem remaining was ...

Water in the gas tank

I continuously strive to keep the r1150r running as smoothly as possible. For a couple of years I have noticed it seems to run differently even when out on the same ride and wasn't sure if it was just my imagination or tiredness. Eventually I realised that it was smoother when the gas tank was full ...

Any Rubber Chicken timing chain tensioner failures?

I fitted a Rubber Chicken timing chain tensioner to the left hand cylinder just after I purchased 1150r six years ago. Over the last couple of weeks (after a oil change) I am hearing what sounds like a timing chain rattle on start up after the bike has been left for a couple of days. It goes away af...

Connecting spot lights to dip switch

Just bought some Denali spots and mounts from Revzilla (20% off this weekend).

I want to be able to switch the lights on and off using the headlamp dip switch. Where is the best place to pick up the high beam wire to splice in the controller to the new spot lights. (2004 R1150R)

Re: Clutch spline opinions

I was concerned about the clutch spline issues so I had mine changed a couple of weeks ago at 61k miles. I also added the clutch plate spacer and had the clutch slave cylinder changed at the same time. In my case the clutch was probably only half worn, and there was no discernible wear on the gearbo...

Re: Tank wing installation with BMW Touring Shield

I have done this - I have a photo but cant figure out how to post it. I cut a couple of slots about 1 inch depth and 3/8 inch wide and rounded the corners to fit the screen - really trial and error I am pleased with them. They work well in heavy traffic on freeways, and crosswinds. Stop head buffeti...

Fuel Injector Cleaning

After installing a AF-XiED O2 Sensor Manipulators from Bemmerboneyard I was extremely pleased by the improved torque and smoothness. I have owned by 2004 for 3 years now, and I have tried all the things recommended on this site to achieve smooth running – plugs, Seafoam, new coils, FI balancing, acc...

Re: New 2003 R1150RT Owner performance questions

Check out http://www.beemerboneyard.com/bmwafxied1150.html. I fitted one last week on my 2004 R1150r, and it smoothed the engine response out significantly. Basically runs a lot better. Better pick up and reduced vibration above 4000rpm At the same time I installed a K&N air cleaner. It is supp...

Re: Leaky seals/ final drive

Maybe just a coincidence but mine leaked since purchased with 2k miles. At 16k I changed transmission and final drive oil with "racing" synthetic I purchased from Boneyard. At about 25k the final drive stopped leaking and hasn't leaked since. It has about 36k now. Magic.

Re: hesitation at full throttle

I occasionally had similar symptoms particularly when the tank was less then half full. It also ran rougher than I thought it should but this was the first BMW I had owned I wasn't sure how it should be. I bought the bike from a BMW dealer and he said he had replaced the fuel pump, so it was a year ...

Re: Sheepskin seat cover

After riding through Monument Valley in 105 degrees I purchased a Alaska Leather sheepskin cover. I always ride in jeans and the extra insulation between the black plastic seat and my butt really helps in hot weather. I have a Sargent seat but the thing that really transformed the comfort for me was...
