Re: Oil full and not burning or cloudy oil check window?
It's never wise to overfill... Go much over the window, seals may be blown, is the conventional wisdom. Has anyone proved this wrong? If I cannot see clear at the top of the window, I'll pull the plug to let some out until I do.

Throttle cable replacement at 18K?
Reviewing the service schedule, I found it calls for throttle cable replacement at 18K. I am wondering if that is really necessary. Can the more experienced among us provide a more realistic projection?

Re: What I think I know
Has anyone mentioned the left cam chain tensioner? Dealers can get the upgrade, or you can get one from Rubber Chicken Racing... http://rubberchickenracinggarage.com/chain.html
The original will cause some grief down the road. The upgrade is easy to install, hell I did it!

Re: 2003 R1150R vibration at higher rpms
I'm not very knowledgable, and some one may have mentioned this. One ought recalibrate the throttle something or other after reconnecting the battery. Turn the ignition switch on, Advance the twist grip to full and back a few times, turn ignition switch off.

Re: lumpy idle
Check to see if the throttle cable is seated, not hung on the edge of the throttle body. Always when disconnecting the battery, after re-connecting before starting the motor, turn the key on. Then twist the throttle three times to full, the turn off the key. This re-calibrates something or other… I'...

Re: L.E.D. Headlamp
I see that there would be the advantage of long life with an led headlight. However, modern H-4 headlights are far ahead of their ancestors regarding their brightness, dispersion. I have to wonder if we need them to be brighter? I have been nearly blinded by high-tech headlights of oncoming vehicles...

lcarlson, Did you see an improvement in fuel economy as well as a reduction in fuel economy? Seems to me, less blow by, would improve your milage.

Oil consumption down, fuel economy up!
Bought my '03 R1150R a year ago, this past June. It had 11,000 miles on the clock. I was happy to get a low milage one. Was disappointed to find high oil consumption, (nearly a quart per 1,000 K) and about 35 miles per gallon. After another 7,000 miles, I am happy to report that oil consumption is d...

It appears, that a loose negative battery connection was the issue. The nut was finger loose, could easily turn the cable end on the battery post. Think I'll stop looking. Thanks to cycle rob and the rest for the input. The link illustrating the disassembly of the starter is great!

Thanks guys for the feedback! The bike has 17K. I should've stated that the battery was new last summer. But I've had problem with Westco's before. Had one that was shorted. Probably check the battery under load, before looking at the starter. I'll let you know what I find. By the way vwdoctor, the ...

I then pressed again, and she cranked over and started. the rest of the day, the starter cranked just fine, with no slow turn over or clicks. Ha...

Thanks for all the suggestions guys! Had the battery out last fall, doing the clutch hub spacer. I pulled fuse 5, switch on . and twisted to full throttle a few times, and that seems to have cleared things up. Idles smooth as glass. My '03 doesn't have the stick coils, fortunately. Battery's a year ...

Thanks guys, Gives me a great place to start. Hadn't considered water, had the tank off last summer. Then I didn't really empty the tank, there was still some slosh as the filter was relocated... How would one empty the tank dry?
