Re: Battery
After approx. 6+ years I'm finally replacing my '04 Rock's gel battery. I used a tender routinely but I suspect time and winter took their toll & I finally dropped a cell. I'm sticking with a stock replacement battery - I really can't complain about lifespan, considering this gel beast's outlive...

oh, the temptation...
Mr. Downunder makes a pretty good point - This is the bike the GSs shoulda been all along, and it may also be the one to pry me away from my Rock. It's like BMW reached in and picked my pocket - that is, if there'd been any money in there to begin with... But why get an R1200R when they offer THIS?

riding position
JHelm - Humans are not an accessory of the bike - it needs to fit us, not the other way around. Having said that, I rode my Rock for about a year to see if I'd adapt or if it needed to be adapted to me. Finally, last Christmas I had all I could stand so I took my seat apart and trimmed the back of i...

Hand guards for the Rockster
I used the guards from a 650GS instead. $45, same as the others, but they have a more angular look that I think matches the line of the nose on the bike. They even have a square notch that rests perfectly on the clutch and brake reservoir covers. I heated them to get them to warp around just right a...

Problem solved for less than $20
=> Nakigara has been kind enough to post pictures of the seat mod! => See his January posting on 650GS handguards. THANKS, mon! My stock (tall?) Rockster seat was higher at the back than at the middle. This always kept me tilted uncomfortably forward. My feet wouldn’t both readily touch the g...

Hi/Low
I called the local shop and I gathered from them that you don't have to match front and back halves. It might be a good idea, tho. With the tall seat my bike came with, the back part was still a quarter inch higher. Also, the part numbers on the underside of the seat turn out to be from whoever it w...

How do you "filter" out poor riding partners?
While looking around for something else I came across this question at http://bmwsporttouring.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/599332/page/0/fpart/1/vc/1 - We've all run into this so it seems worth bringing up here too: How do you decide in advance who you'll ride with, and if you turn out t...

high seat/low seat
Anybody with a Roadster's low seat interested in trading for a Rockster high seat? I'd rather do that than get out the electric carving knife and start "customizing", but I'm about at that point...

Hot bike. But is this Motorraad's way of telling us they've hit the limit on what they can do with a boxer? If they could ever once just wax hell out of a 'Busa would they then be able to relax? Ah, I am a simple man of the Pleistocene. Your "cell-phones" and "sport utility vehicles&q...

How do you decide when to replace tires/tyres?
I start looking for replacements as soon as I detect a performance problem! Personal riding style makes it nearly impossible to come up with a single criterion. Old timers ride like they expect something to fail. The wear indicators are great, but other stuff can come up before they do. Back in my y...

Rockster vs R80
I understand completely! I kept my '78 R100/7 and mean to keep her trimmed and running forever, but the new bike is a blast! Each has a ...unique personality in addition to being powerful enough to take me in over my head anytime I quit paying attention. It took me way too long to finally figure out...

I nearly got a Tiger
The day I ended up buying the Rock I test rode everything they'd let me try at the Dealer's. I was pretty interested in the Tiger because it was a pretty sweet deal with the bags and all, and Yeah, those stripes were pretty cool. But the Damn Thing was too tall for my stumpy li'l legs...I dropped it...

Introductions
Hi everybody, I'm Gary and I just joined up (yet another Quality Engineer riding a Beemer). This is the best site I've found so far on R1150 and Rocksters. I've been reading and following the threads for a couple of days now and I'm happy to've found this group. -Picked up some good pointers about t...
